Food for the heart
Food is as essential as the air we breathe. Unfortunately, only a few people take it to heart to make a conscious effort of choosing the right foods to put on their table - this, despite the Department of Health’s continuous campaign for proper nutrition.

Healthy rice, anyone?
Brown rice, Benguet rice, Baguio rice, Japanese rice, Laon, Maalsa, Grade A or even Jollibee rice are just some varieties of rice that can be found in the market. Its varieties are determined by their appearance if it is glutinous or waxy or have a strong aroma. This diversity of rice proves that Filipinos are not only fond of eating rice. A Filipino meal is not complete without it.

Celebrating the fight against oral diseases
Children are highly susceptible to have cavities due to poor oral care. Proper tooth care awareness must therefore be observed in order to prevent sad and bad smiles in their faces. To ensure the Filipino public’s better oral hygiene, the Philippine Dental Association in partnership with Colgate has recently launched the National Dental Health Month held recently at SM Mall of Asia.

You are what you eat
As a nutritionist-dietitian, it hurts to know and see some people suffer the health consequences of being misled by what they hear, see and read. It is a given fact that during every first quarter of the year (January – March), print, outdoor, radio and television advertisements of various companies are at their highest level to get the edge over their competitors. Sometimes, the exposure of television commercials are far longer than the body of the teleserye you are very much staying awake for. And to give you light on one of the most popular issues these days, allow me to awaken you more about caffeine. Being a licensed professional, we are bound to disclose anything that could be beneficial or harmful to the health of Filipino People.

The Price of Fitness
Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s have come and gone and in just about six weeks, we’ll be officially beginning summer. I say this every year around this time, and I’ll say it again this year -- if you haven’t started getting yourself in shape for summer, then now’s the time to begin. And if you need to or intend to make real headway and lose enough to make enough of a difference in how you feel and how your body functions, then I mean RIGHT NOW, not next week, not tomorrow.
