HOME ENTERTAINMENT has never been the same with Philips Electronics’ development of an award-winning unique technology called Ambilight Intelligent Lighting or Ambilight.
Ambilight emits ambient light along the sides of the Flat TV display and, utilizing Philips’ proprietary color analysis software, blends to match the dominant colors on the screen.
Ambilight thus extends the consumer’s viewing field. What’s more amazing, according to its developer, is that the use of this custom backlighting reduces eyestrain, improves the perceived picture detail, contrast and color as well as creates a deeper, more immersive viewing environment.
The addition of an Ambilight display also enhances the design element in any room.
Ambilight technology works with an external light sensor to determine how much light there is in the room and control the TV light output accordingly. A dark room will trigger less light whereas a bright room will drive more light output.
The technology dramatically reduces glare and reflections on the display by screening light sources that strike the front of the set, thus reducing eyestrain and providing a more relaxing viewing experience.
Meeting the ideal light level set by the Society of Motion Picture Technology Engineers, Ambilight TV allows for an optimum-viewing environment; it never impedes nor disrupts on-screen action but actually enhances it.
How does Ambilight work? Imagine watching a TV program set on a boat at sea. When the scene focuses on an ocean scene, the technology automatically illuminates a blue light along the sides to enhance the setting. As it the scene moves towards land, Ambilight automatically changes the ambient lighting to fit the coloring displayed on the screen.
Completing the amazing home entertainment technology package from Philips Electronics is the Ambilight Full Surround and Ambilight 2 Channel.
As the most advanced generation of Ambilight technology, Ambilight Full Surround, an industry first, features dynamic lighting effects on all sides of the display, providing a continuous band of light to fully immerse the viewer. It surrounds the entire display with a integrated canvas that makes the screen appear to be floating when hung on the wall.
Ambilight 2 Channel, on the other, creates a stereo, two-sided lighting environment as it expands the viewing experience through independent colors. This light mode can be customized to blend colors to match on both sides of the set or feature different coloring on each side.
With Ambilight, Philips Electronics has once again pushed the limits in innovations technology. Since 2002, Philips Lighting and Research has done exceptional work focusing on lighting and the home domain so it may identify, demonstrate and evaluate innovative light applications.
