Photo freaks will now be able to produce their own photo prints anywhere, anytime, with the new Canon Selphy ES-1 Compact Printer. Compared to previous flatbed Selphy models, the ES-1 has a unique upright or vertical design making it possible to be stored or operated in small spaces. Measuring 199 x 177 x 113 mm, the ES-1 was also designed with a built-in handle so that in can be carried like a handbag (and also looks like one).
But what's more interesting with the ES-1 is that it is the second printer to carry Canon's DIGIC II image processing engine (the very same technology used in Canon's professional digital SLR cameras). Canon claims that incorporating DIGIC II in the ES-1 has improved both the print quality and operation of the printer.
The ES-1 can give print resolutions of 300x600 dpi which is not affected by surrounding temperatures while printing, and comes with instantly dry, protective coating for each print. The printer makes use of Canon's new Easy Photo Packs that combines ink and paper in one cartridge so users can just slip in one cartridge in to the ES-1 and start printing.
Like other Selphy printers, the ES-1 can still handle wireless printing thru IrDA, Bluetooth or Digital IXUS WIRELESS. It is also PictBridge compatible and has Direct Print support for most popular memory cards. The ES-1 is equipped with a retractable USB cable for PC connectivity. Some of the features of the ES-1 include automatic red eye correction, color photo effects, and a dedicated Creative Print button that lets users add design layouts like calendars, albums, or speech bubble templates to their photos.
What photo enthusiasts will enjoy about the Selphy ES-1 is its optional battery pack. This feature enables the ES-1 to be used even outside the comforts of home. When it comes to portable printing, the Selphy ES-1 has taken it one step further with good design and full packed features. Canon will be releasing the new printer this month.
