MANNERISMS
IT may not be as groundbreaking as, say, metallic jackets or space-aged tracksuits for spring, according to Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, but florals do signify the birth—literally, turning from winter—of the season. And the fashion industry, from designers to editors, do wear them in the most striking colors possible.

BACK TO BASICS
SUNLIGHT can be very disturbing and at times may even compromise vision. Depending on its intensity, the damage it can cause may vary from a minor discomfort to a serious accident. There are several options to maximize the anti-glare protection you get from your sunglasses, depending on your lifestyle needs.

For the stylish ‘zippy’
WILL backpacks gain a new lease on life as a sophisticated choice for the style-setter?

The KING OF Nothing To Do
WATCH. These past few weeks have been pretty good to moviegoers, at least from my point of view. My girlfriend and I watched Music and Lyrics the week it opened, and it’s pretty much the perfect date movie, in many ways: amusing, romantic, full of catchy tunes and funny banter, with the prerequisite difficulties to overcome and a happy ending that doesn’t feel so forced. Plus, who knew that Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore could sing? The other week we also watched The Pursuit of Happyness—which was good, but a bit of a downer; of course it ends on an upbeat note, but somehow I walked into the theater thinking that the story would be 50 percent soul-crushing struggle and 50 percent inspirational climb up towards success. It was more like 98 percent and two percent, respectively. (Happyness makes you feel good for Chris Gardner, on whose life it’s based, but reading articles online that say he’s on the way to becoming a male Oprah give one second thoughts.)

Non-stop chug, minus the blare
IF you have gotten tired of the usual “gimmick” haunts like Timog, Morato, or Libis in Quezon City, with all their house music blasting in ear-pounding decibels, there’s another area around those parts that’s fast becoming the new “in” place, but minus the blare.
