MY BASIC GOURMET:
A gourmet friend, Sister Imelda Mora, OSA, once told me over dinner that there is always a right set of mind for creativity, that even in matters of cuisine, creativity as a mode of expression most often supersedes technicalities. An epicure, however, told me that frugality is the mother of creativity that in matters of culinary invention, are innovations.
The drinks are ON the house
Barely five months old, MJ’s Café Bar, can be considered an upstart in the hopping nightlife competition in Manila. However, they’ve slowly and successfully carved their own little niche. Located at the BayPark Food Strip along Roxas Boulevard, the al fresco café and bar is one of many restaurants housed in the strips’ 40-footer container van kiosks. Since the van is both kitchen and dining area, the seats can be a bit limited, so the seats were placed on the roof – a move that attracted the attention of the Baywalk and Malate beer-drinking crowds.

BEER FRIEND
The term "comfort food" refers to any food or drink to which one turns to for temporary respite. The reasons for having comfort food are diverse, but most of the time it is usually the food you grew up eating. Comfort food is also a subjective thing; everyone has his or her own comfort food or drink. But the most common for Pinoys are the likes of adobo, fried chicken, fried tilapia, sinigang and other staples at one’s home kitchen. Sometimes even a piece of candy can be very comforting.
