Top executives of publishing companies in Asia arrived yesterday for PublishAsia 2007 — the biggest international conference of publishers and print industry movers --- which will be held at the historic landmark Manila Hotel starting today until March 28.
One of those who arrived was Reiner Mittelbach, chief executive officer of Ifra, who will deliver the welcome message for some 400 delegates from all over the region.
The chairman of the conference is Pichai Chuensuksawadi, editor-in-chief of Post Publishing Co. Ltd. of Thailand.
This is the first time Manila is hosting the conference which has made its rounds of key cities in the region in the last 16 years. Publish Asia is dubbed the number one networking platform in Asia.
In a statement, Mittelbach acknowledged that "while there may be a few clouds of uncertainty hovering the industry, there is just as much opportunity to thrive in the emerging multimedia landscape that we see today."
He said the conference is an opportunity to network with "your peers, to find out how to ‘connect’ with your audience and to improve and secure your business."
With the theme "Reinventing for Today’s Business, Creating for Tomorrow’s Challenges," the conference will tackle the challenges and concerns confronting the print media today.
The conference itinerary includes a golf tournament, a guided city tour, cultural presentations and rides on jeepneys.
Another highlight of the conference is an Expo featuring some of the industry’s top technology and service providers. With an impressive line-up of speakers from across the world, the events gathers the print industry’s best minds to share their insights on the future of the print media.
Speakers include executives from Telegraph Media Group, Consulting Morris, Digital Works, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Google, Rajasthan Patrika, Speurders. NI; Telesis Consulting Ltd., The Times of India, Ifra Newsplex, JoongAng llbo, VG Multimedia, International Newspapers Marketing Association, ABP Pvt Ltd and imedia.
The 6th Annual Asia Media Awards Gala Dinner will be held on March 28.
The PublishAsia 2007 Philippine Committee was convened by the heads of the four publications: Emil Yap of Manila Bulletin, Sandy Prieto-Romualdez of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Miguel Belmonte of Philippine Star and Dante "Klink" Ang Jr., of The Manila Times. (Manny B. Marinay)
