GMA, millions miss meals; that’s big trouble
spacer

Floro L. Mercene

VOTE for Manny Villar, the first market vendor destined to become President. Nanay Curing foresaw it coming.

***

GMA says she sometimes misses meals also. Four million families and a President are hungry. We are in trouble.

***

FVR scores emerging political dynasties.

Sorry, sir, but in our country the guys with the gold will always rule.

***

Malacañang says there is now law that prohibits political dynasties.

There is also no law that prohibits fooling people.

***

Honorio Lopez stands out as one of the greats in the pantheon of national heroes. He fought the Spanish and the Americans as a general under Emilio Aguinaldo, and the Japanese in WWII.

His greatest feat was writing a civil code for the provisional government at Malolos, the first document that upheld human rights for Filipinos, which he wrote in Tagalog. The book is being republished by the University of the Philippines.

***

The progenies of Honorio Lopez have made marks on the national life. He had a grandson (Mel Lopez) who became mayor of Manila, another grandson (Jimmy Lopez) who is a congressman, and a slew of scholastics, court justices and businessmen.

A great grandson, Manny Lopez, is running for congressman in Tondo.

Pork allocation for congressmen have doubled in 2007 budget. They took R3.6 billion from retirement pay of government workers to increase their pork.

A foul blow by the solons — just remember their names.

***

Malacañang says it had nothing to do with doubling the pork allowances of the congressmen.

You allowed yourselves to be caught, so you are on your own.

Team Unity is twitting Genuine Opposition for its lack of agenda and direction. The agenda recently unveiled by GO is a rehash of an economic blueprint which Team Unity had unveiled before the electorate.

Team Unity’s economic blueprint springs from President Arroyo’s Social Payback program which assumes that since the economy is growing, the country must seize the momentum of growth.

The program spells out measures on how to sustain the economic growth and how to spread fast the fruits of this growth.

***

The unwritten agenda of the opposition is to try to oust GMA with a third impeachment move once they tighten their grip on Congress.

Malacañang is moving heaven and earth to prevent this from happening.

***

Military is deploying troops in the slums to stop the rebels from infiltrating these areas with assassins.

Not to mention that they are also campaigning for certain party-list candidates.

***

US State Dept. official is coming to look into the continuing political killings.

Sent by the Great White Father from Washington – they must really be worried with what’s happening here.

***

A fact-finding team from the Interparliamentary Union based in Geneva, Switzerland is also coming next month to investigate the political killings being blamed on the military.

Are they going to have an impact on the elections? You bet they will.

***

The public has long been waiting for the President to issue a strong statement to stop the killings but all we hear are platitudes and even praises for military personalities suspected of having a hand in the killings.

***

Atty. Jose Antonio K. "Tony" Veloso was recently nominated as the official candidate of Kampi for congressman for the third district of Leyte.

Veloso was also appointed district chairman of Kampi for the same area. Congressman Luis Villafuerte, Kampi president, administered the oath of membership to Veloso.

***

GMA wants widespread hunger abolished in six months.

Easy — abolish the law of supply and demand.

Time flies indeed. The daughter of my former assistant in the Department of Tourism is on the way to becoming an international singing star. Julie Ann Beran is going to Singapore soon to be the star performer of Da Boss Band at a club in Singapore. Her last stint was with a US Navy club in Diego Garcia.
