Online Photo Editing (http://www.picnik.com/)
Software as a service is fast becoming the new trend and strategy for most software application companies. The recent one is the announcement of Adobe that it is currently developing a completely free version of Photoshop that will be available online. But while we are still waiting for this to become available, there is another online image editor that is already up on the web: picnik.com
Picnik makes it a snap to give your photos a serious makeover - and add a touch of creative flair to boot. Instead of downloading the imaging application to your computer, here you upload your pictures to the site. The site uses flash to give you all the basic editing tools you'd expect, as well as a bunch of creative effects, which work a treat, updating in real-time. Picnik will allow you to quickly edit all your online photos from one place. It's the easiest way on the web to fix underexposed photos, remove red-eye, or apply effects to your photos.
Some of its offerings are: one-click photo fixing or in-depth tweaking; crop, rotate, and resize in real-time; tons of special effects, from artsy to fun; fast; works directly with many photo sharing sites; no download required, nothing to install!; works on Mac, Windows, even Linux and most of all it’s free.
Using Picnik is simple. Picnik will initially ask you to get your photo in your computer, from a website, Yahoo search, Flickr search or a webcam photo. After choosing a photo, you can start editing your picture. You can choose to use auto-fix, rotate, crop, resize, exposure, colors, sharpen and red-eye.
Under Creative tools, it offers some basic effects like Sepia, Black and White, Boost, Soften, Vignette, Matte, Tint, Infrared film, Focal B&W, Focal Soften, Doodle, and Gooify.
This type of online model could be really useful if you're on the road and want to brush up your snaps in an Internet cafe before sending them off to friends or even adding them to your own Flickr account directly from the site. Have fun!
