Looks like 2007 is another prolific year for Nokia as it unveiled to the press last week eight new devices slated to come out for the first half of the year in the Philippines. These are phones which cater to all types of markets - from low-end to high-end - and are meant to solidify the Finnish brand's position as an industry leader not only in Asia but throughout the world.
First to be introduced is the Nokia 2626, a basic phone that is at the same time stylish and is ideal for the first-time mobile phone user. Clothed in yummy and attractive candy colors, the 2626 has an ultra-friendly user interface and possesses desirable features such as an FM radio, a voice recorder, Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging and GPRS browser.
The Nokia 3110 classic, on the other hand, offers the latest technology in one affordable package. It has a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, FM radio and MP3 player. Its address book can store up to 2000 contacts, plus many more with its expandable memory.
Easily our favorite (and most people's) is the Nokia 6300 which speaks of so much elegance in one slim monobloc, stainless steel design. It has a decent 2 megapixel camera, a media player and FM radio. Its 9MB user memory can be expanded up to 2GB with a hotswap microSD slot, with connectivity via mini-USB, AV connector and Bluetooth.
Slated to be sold locally in April is the much-touted Nokia N95. Declared by Nokia as the "ultimate multimedia computer," it features a pioneering two-way slide concept, integrated GPS functionality, WiFi connectivity and a 5 megapixel camera that is capable of 20x digital zoom.
Another trailblazing product to be launched in the first half of 2007 is the Nokia 6110 Navigator. This is the first mass market mobile phone with fully integrated GPS navigation solution to be introduced in the country. The phone has built-in maps which will enable users to do location searches and create routes besides. This wonder is also 3G-capable and has High Speed Downlink Pocket Access (HSDPA) of up to 3.6 mbps for fast web browsing and downloading.
One other high-tech delight is the Nokia N76 which possesses such assets as a 2MP camera, S60 Web Browser with Mini-Map, 3G and microSD expansion slot. Its one-touch technology enables one to play thousands of songs without ever opening the device.
Rounding up the new products are the business phones Nokia E61i and E65 earlier featured here in Technews. The first one boasts of a large screen, user-friendly QWERTY keyboard, 3G, mobile browser, MP3 player and improves the email experience with dedicated email keys. The E65, on the other hand, enables one to view email attachments from common office applications, access business functions quickly with One-Touch keys and make cost-efficient VoIP (voice over IP) calls via WLAN.
