Amid the country’s improving economic data, President Arroyo has called on the nation to avoid shooting itself on the foot by rejecting dirty politics. The President bewailed that politics has become the "biggest industry in the country" that unfortunately has tarnished the country’s reputation in the international scene.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned yesterday all candidates, whether running for national or local positions, not to spend more than what is allowed by law, stressing that overspending is an election offense and could be a ground for disqualification to hold public office.
The Comelec made the warning as the 45-day campaign period allowed by law for senatorial candidates will hit the halfway mark on March 29. Charges of overspending against some of the candidates have already started to surface.
