Rep. Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos returns as Mandaluyong City mayor after the Commission on Election (Comelec) officially declared him winner on yesterday dawn.

Abalos was the first city mayor declared winner by local Comelec office who finished the canvassing of votes until proclamation at about 1:30 am. Thursday dawn.

Abalos won over his two rivals, garnering 92,349 votes. His rivals Florencio Solomon got 1,770 votes and  Camilo Alpuerto has 1,433 votes.

"I was overwhelmed by the support of the people, seeing the difference of all the votes against my rivals," said Abalos, lauding the local Comelec office for a fast and transparent counting.

Abalos seats as mayor anew after serving one term as lone representative of the city in Congress.

He will take post in the newly-constructed city hall, the city government started building when he was the city chief executive. (Anna liza T. Villas)
