The Asia-Pacific security: Time to regroup? LAST Sunday, I wrote about converging events that may compel the US and other powers to rethink the longterm security architecture for the Asia-Pacific region. Critical factors include: The overstretched US Armed Forces on many war fronts and peacekeeping missions; the demoralization of large segments of the American public from unacceptable casualties from the Iraq war and the consequent massive tax burden to support defense spending (at the current level of 660 billion USD); the more robust roles of China, Japan, and India; and the emergence of ASEAN as a platform for security cooperation.
Pentecost: A renewal through the Holy Spirit ONE of the most important events in the history of the Redemption is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It was on this day that the resurrected, ascended, and glorified King poured out His Spirit upon the Church. This outpouring began the formation of the Christian church with its spiritual gifts for teaching and power and the spread of the Gospel.

Disappointment over politicians LOURDES, FRANCE — Before I left the Philippines for this pilgrimage to Marian shrines in Europe, a lady sent me this message which is worth sharing. She writes:
Free and fair elections? AMID the controversies generated by alleged anomalies in the perennially notorious areas in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), let us examine whether there is some basis to the complaints. One of the causes for faulty elections in the area is the multiple registration of voters in the said region. The Comelec itself speaking through Executive Director Pio Joson said that there are about 250,000300,000 multiple registrants in the voters’ list in the ARMM. The director said that the Comelec cannot just void the voters’ list as only the courts have the right to do so. To quote the director he said, "The Commission cannot motto propio (on its own) just cancel these people’s registration."
The Honors Code IT is graduation season once again. Colleges and universities will once more confer summa, magna, and cum laude titles on graduates who will lead the 2007 batch in their respective institutions. The Honors Code is addressed to these honor graduates to whom "much is given but also much is expected." The Honors Code is a set of rules that will keep the graduates’ feet planted firmly on the ground, even as their heads are high above the clouds. So that they will be easy to remember, they are anchored on the word EXCELLENCE, which has been broken down into five little words and interpreted as in an anagram: X, CELL, EXCEL, EN, and LENS.

Fix your eyes on the Lord THIS article is in response to numerous requests to reproduce Biblical verses to give comfort and encouragement in the midst of danger. I am reproducing Psalm 91 to reassure at all time that God by His grace will keep us from a disquieting fear in the midst of the greatest evil and dangers.
A mature democracy THERE’S one foreigner who administration pitbulls will not fault for being a meddler in our internal and sovereign affairs: That’s Mr. Christopher Hill, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs.
