As local executives have been proclaimed as winners by the COMELEC in this year's midterm elections, many observers say that ruling families in several regions of the country have dominated once again. Some have called it "the people's choice", but for many, it is clearly "a family dynasty" since time immemorial.

The Genuine Opposition (GO) loosened a little bit its grip on the Senate race after the Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBoC), counted the votes contained in the certificates of canvass (CoCs) from Cebu province, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao del Sur, and Pasay City.
President Arroyo leaves for New Zealand today, Sunday, starting her five-day travel to that country and Australia, to reaffirm close diplomatic ties with countries in this region and promote the Philippines to foreign investors there.
Mrs. Arroyo is scheduled to depart from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 4:30 p.m. today for a four-day state visit to New Zealand on invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.
