By JENNYLEI D. CABERTE

Germany’s LR Health and Beauty Systems, which is launching its marketing office in Makati in August this year, is now considering putting up a manufacturing plant in the Philippines.

Burkhard Meffert, LR Health and Beauty Systems Asia-Pacific managing director, has found the Philippines an ideal place to do business.

He noted that the Philippines has all the attributes that will help fuel the success of the company’s business here.

He cited the country’s sound and strong macroeconomic fundamentals and the wide acceptance of direct selling and network marketing among Filipinos.

Meffert noted that Filipinos seem "crazy about network marketing, and over 50 percent of all perfumes and decorative cosmetics are sold through direct sales" in the country.

The chance for good earnings in network marketing is considerably higher than in any conventional job here," he stressed, adding that such trend bodes for his company which markets top caliber brands of perfume and other body car products made in Germany.

Meffert said should this plan materialize, the Philippines will be the first country outside Germany that will be produce their company’s world-renowned personal care products.

He said LR’s headquarters is now weighing the feasibility of putting up a manufacturing plant outside of Germany.

LR Health & Beauty Systems currently operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ahlen, Germany where the company was established in 1985 and has since grown to become Europe’s biggest direct selling firm with operations in 29 countries," Meffert emphasized.

LR Health and Beauty Systems Philippines Inc., which will have its soft launching on August 1 at its Makati office and grand launch in November at the Araneta Coliseum, will be its first subsidiary in Asia.

Meffert noted LR has also already decided to print in the Philippines all its promotional materials, magazines and other literatures for the Asia-Pacific, which includes Australia and New Zealand.
