spacer

By JOEL D. PINAROC

Business process outsourcing company TeleTech Holdings has opened two new call center facilities in Bacoor and Iloilo City as part of an aggressive expansion plan in the Philippines.

The facilities are TeleTech’s ninth and tenth in the country, complementing the company’s 11,500-strong workforce here, according to Maulik Parekh, vice president and general manager of TeleTech’s Asian operations.

Parekh said the facilities will add about 2,000 more call center seats to TeleTech’s current 7,000 workstations in its 8 centers across the country.

"The Bacoor facility will have 1,300 seats, while the Iloilo facility will have 650 seats," the executive said, adding that TeleTech has also started recruiting potential workers for the two centers.

Parekh said the company is aiming to start operations for the two facilities this year.

The two centers will cater to offshore clients in the US, UK and Australia, among others, the executive said, adding that TeleTech is currently "servicing" firms belonging to a wide array of industries including healthcare automotive, telecommunications, and banking.

"But most of our business is generated through our telecommunications clients," Parekh said.

The executive however, did not disclose the investments made by TeleTech on the two centers, saying only that the firm has invested "millions of dollars" to establish the new facilities.

Parekh also said TeleTech continues it goal of providing employment to workers living outside the Makati commercial hub.

"Most of our facilities are outside Makati. This is part of our goal of making it easier for prospective employees to travel to and from the office," the executive said.

Currently, TeleTech’s Metro Manila facilities include center in Roxas Blvd., Novaliches, and in Cainta.

Its lone facility that is near Makati is its center in Fort Bonifacio.

The company also has regional facilities in Cebu, Dumaguete, Bacolod and Lipa City.

"In fact, most of our facilities are outside Metro Manila," Parekh said.

The executive added that TeleTech is planning to expand further, to eventually reach its goal of having 10,000 workstations in the Philippines by end of 2007.

However, Parekh said the firm cannot disclose yet other details of these future expansion plans due to regulatory issues.
