Gene Gonzalez, Marco Polo’s Guest Chef for June
One of Manila’s top celebrated chefs, Gene Gonzalez, is coming to Cebu to share his famous brand of Filipino cuisine in "Pinoy Pinoy!," the Marco Polo Plaza’s Filipino food festival from June 9 - 17. Chef Gene and his culinary team prepare classic Pampanga specialties at the daily buffet lunch and dinner at Café Marco, in celebration of the 109th Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
Chef Gene is the chef and owner of Café Ysabel and Gino’s Fine Cuisine, the president of the Center for Culinary Studies and the head of L’Ordre Mondial’s the Manila chapter. Apart from numerous appearances on TV programs, Gene also hosts his own show, "Gene’s Cuisine," on the Lifestyle Channel. He has authored several popular books on classic Filipino cuisine, most notably "Cocina Sulipena," heralding the culinary gems from his family’s home town of Pampanga. Cocina Sulipeña literally means "the cuisine of Sulipan," a town that was the melting pot of blended Asian spices and European opulence into a cuisine that to this day defines what Philippine cuisine is all about.
Aside from Pampanga’s famous Sisig, diners at Café Marco will also be treated to Galantina, Menudo, Kaldereta, Lengua, Paella Sulipena, Kare-kareng Apalit, Bringhe and other old–fashioned Pampanga classics, alongside the restaurant’s regular buffet dishes, appetizers and desserts.
