How can "Wowowee" allegedly fool the public through its new game portion when the Ultra tragedy that happened last year that claimed the lives of 71 people has not been totally forgotten?
Early this week, some viewers complained to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) the anomaly that they witnessed and recorded in the newest game portion, "Wilyonaryo," in the show hosted by Willie Revillame.
When Willie pulled out the jackpot card from the wheel, he showed the card with a zero. However, when they were looking for the P2 million card, it turned out the Willie was holding the said jackpot card all along. That means, Willie could have easily switched cards when the contestant gets the jackpot or if he wants a particular contestant to win.
The anomaly did not pass the watchful eye of "Wowowee" viewers who are out to demand that MTRCB should readily conduct an investigation on the incident.
If ABS-CBN is giving out P2 million simply for show, then how can "Wowowee" claim to give its viewers a better way of life through its game portions? Apparently, when it was discovered that Willie was holding the P2 million card, "Wowowee" was not out to give the jackpot that day.
Mother Lily to sue Angel Locsin?
Angel Locsin does not cease to become controversial. After leaving GMA 7 and moving to ABS-CBN, the actress is now being hounded by Regal Entertainment matriarch Lily Monteverde because of her (Angel’s) existing contract with the film company.
Mother Lily insists Angel shouldn’t have signed an exclusive contract with Star Cinema for movies, since Angel still has a contract to fulfill with Regal Entertainment. Angel’s two-year contract with ABS-CBN covers exclusivity also for her movies.
The Regal matriarch is so affected by this issue that during the press conference last Thursday for her latest movie "My Kuya’s Wedding," she shed tears when she obliged to comment on Angel Locsin after colleague Mario Bautista asked her about "this talent, who in the beginning was profusedly thanking her for trusting her (the talent)."
Yesterday, Mother Lily was set to meet with Malou Santos, the big boss of Star Cinema, so they can resolve Angel’s problem of signing up with the latter outfit. Mister Showbiz learned Mother Lily is not amenable to a joint venture with ABS-CBN’s film arm for Angel’s next movie.
Mother Lily admits earlier on that she felt bad when she learned about Angel’s film contract with Star Cinema. The Regal producer is threatening to file a damage suit against Angel once the actress starts to work on her Star Cinema project, without Mother Lily’s knowledge. But let’s trust that after Mother Lily’s meeting last night with Star Cinema, they should have arrived at an amicable decision favorable for both outfits.
Since ABS-CBN signed up Angel, the network lost no time in giving her projects. She was given a grand welcome in "ASAP ‘07." She was also fielded in several ABS-CBN shows for guesting stints, like "The Buzz," "Boy and Kris" and "Deal or No Deal."
Angel is also set to start taping soon for her first primetime series on ABS-CBN, "Taong Lobo," where she will be paired with Piolo Pascual. The story is penned by Ricky Lee and Cathy Molina will work at the helm of the series.
Angel and Piolo previously worked together in a TV commercial for a coffee drink and a billboard for a watch company. Piolo will also be Angel’s leading man in the latter’s first film project for Star Cinema.
Angel is endlessly thankful for the warm welcome she received from ABS-CBN, especially the grand party hosted for her in "ASAP ‘07," where she arrived in style – aboard a limousine and in a Rajo Laurel gown.
Popularity contest or singing competition?
The musical battle gets tougher in GMA 7’s newest competition, "Celebrity Duets," with the remaining seven contestants to display anew their flair for singing. Last Saturday, beauty queen Anna Teresa Licaros got the boot, the first one to leave the contest. She proved to be the weakest contestants, with the lowest number of text votes.
Will the remaining seven prove to be better on the third week? Let’s see what Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Jessica Rodriguez-Bunevacz, Dr. Hayden Kho, Frederick Peralta, Wyngard Tracy, Tim Yap and Dr. Manny Calayan have to show this Saturday.
Tessa insists "Celebrity Duets" is not a serious singing competition, but more of a popularity contest since the winner will be determined by text votes of the viewers. All the participants are merely having fun in joining the contest and are not seriously bent on winning the cash prize of P1 million. But of course, it will be nice to win the cash prize since you get to give half of it to your favorite charity.
Among the contestants, only Wyngard Tracy and Frederick Peralta appear to have the brilliant vocal prowess of professional singers, although both are considered amateurs. There are contestants who merely impress the viewers with their showmanship or their flamboyant costumes. But then, it all depends on the viewers’ preference on who should really win.
"Celebrity Duets" is a franchise of the popular Hollywood program conceptualized by "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell. The local version is hosted by real-life sweethearts Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid.
For the past two taping days of "Celebrity Duets," GMA 7’s big boss Wilma Galvante was present in the audience. She attests the show is presently her "favorite" program in the network.
Sen. Villar not worried about detractors
Senate President Manny Villar met with selected members of the entertainment press last Thursday and he amazed everyone with the casual attitude he exuded regarding negative publicities that he had been getting of late, particularly criticisms reportedly being hurled against him by Korina Sanchez who is the girlfriend of another wannabe president Mar Roxas.
Sen. Villar said, "wala po tayong comment diyan. Hindi ko pinapansin ang mga intriga kasi waste of time and energy. Buti pa manood na lang ako ng sine," he said adding that he watches the movies with his daughter Camille every week. The last film they watched together was ‘Bourne Ultimatum" at Greenbelt in Makati.
Sen. Villar acknowledged the fact that any name mentioned as a presidential contender is most likely to incur a lot of enemies. "Basta ang importante, kasama ang pangalan mo sa tambiolo. Kasi kung hindi ka kasama, hindi ka kasali sa raffle," he said laughing.
He added, "hindi ako nakikipagbangayan kahit kanino. Ayaw ko ng mga away away na ganyan. Tapos na tayo diyan. Ang sa akin, mas importante yung kapag nabanggit ang pangalan mo na possible candidate, hindi nagtatawanan ang mga tao. Ibig sabihin kasama ka talaga sa tambiolo. Kung magtawanan, hindi ka rin kasama sa tambiolo," he said again stressing the fact that the presidentiable, whoever he will be, should be able to solve the country’s biggest problem which is poverty. "I believe that anyone can lay claim to the idea of implementing poverty alleviating measures but at the end of the day, experience in solving that problem will prove to be the most significant factor."
Sen. Villar said he is still reluctant about the possibility of having his story filmed on the big screen. "Hindi ko talaga iniisip yan kahit nga sinasabi nila na maganda ang story, rags to riches and very inspiring. Kung sino ang gaganap, mas alam ng mga taga show biz yan kaya siguro kayo dapat ang magsabi sa akin kung sino ang bagay," he ended.
