Readers make my day

By Raffy Paredes

It really makes my day whenever I get reader responses to this column. Most readers email their favorite images and some just write in their comments and suggestions.

I always make it a point to answer all emails. However, I may have disappointed more than a couple of readers who have invited me into their Friendster’s network. To be honest, I still have to give myself time to knowing more about this popular networking site. Also, somebody once sent images to my email address via SMS. The pictures were too small to appreciate, the sender was unidentified, and the message contained no email address I could reply to. My apologies to the disppointed sender.

Some senders have been quite hesitant to share more than their images. Please try to include a little background on yourselves and your photography whenever you send in your photographs. I really appreciate your stories as much as your pictures. Thank you all.

Today we feature three readers who recently emailed this column.

Dave John B. Astom of Las Piñas City sent in photographs taken in the summers of 2006 and 2007. Dave says that he does photography as a pastime. Whenever time allows, he grabs his camera and "takes snapshots of the scenes I want to remember." Dave also shares that "a little knowledge in using Photoshop" and photo magazine and newspaper articles have helped him bring out the best from his pictures.

Dave says that just having a point-and-shoot camera has not deterred him at all. He has learned that even without a high-end camera, he can still "capture the breathstaking moments" of life. Dave also proudly shares that his passion for photography has enabled him to create gifts for relatives. With a printer and his knowledge of Photoshop, Dave has made invitations for "birthdays and binyagans" in the family.

Dave’s favorite subjects are "people, scenes and flowers," and he shares these "with my relatives via Friendster and Webshots." Still unaffiliated with any club at the moment, Dave has plans on attending one of the photography seminars occasionally listed in Picture Perfect.

Reader Jenny Lee emailed images taken by her husband Jonathan whom she describes as a "seasonal" photographer. Jenny says that Jonathan "loves to take pictures of views na ‘wala sa Manila,’ kapag out of town kami." When in Manila, he does not use his camera at all.

Jonathan’s images were taken in Bangui, Pagudpod, and Panglao Island on the three occasions that the couple took out-of-town trips in the past year. Jenny shares that Jonathan likes to experiment with different angles, loves shooting nature, and enjoys capturing unguarded moments.

Our last contributor today is Nida Cruz of Bulacan who also featured a few months ago. Nida, whose "favorite subjects are landscape, nature, still life and just about anything that catches my attention," continues to shoot and share with fellow readers.
