Goodreads is a privately run website started in 2006 with a mission to improve the process of reading and learning throughout the world.  It is a place where you can see what your friends are reading and vice versa. You can create "bookshelves" to organize what you've read (or want to read). You can add and review books that you are currently reading, going to read, or already read. You can also read reviews by people who aren't in your friend network.  Signing up is simple — you just enter your name, email, and a password.

When you login, the home page will show all the latest reviews from your friends. If you decide to browse you can see popular and unpopular books in your friend network.  You can find books on Goodreads by browsing or by searching for them. You can also optionally add a rating, a review, the date you read the book, if you have a copy to sell/swap, and which shelves to put it on.

You can also create your own groups.  Groups are the perfect way to bring a group of people together to discuss literature. Groups are perfect for close friends, organizations, local book clubs, university alumni, or just about any group conceivable. Groups can be public, moderated, restricted by domain, or secret.
