Miriam homecoming set
All alumni of Miriam College (formerly Maryknoll College) are invited to have fun as the school celebrates its annual homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Miriam College school grounds, with the theme, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!" Highlighting this year’s celebration are the presentation of the 2007 Amazing Alumni Achievers and performances from the homecoming jubilarians. A food fair, mini-bazaar and disco party with lots of freebies and raffle prizes are lined-up. The High School Silver Jubilee Class of 1982 is this year’s main homecoming organizers. Diploma program in photojourn at AdMU
Applications are now being accepted for the third offering of the diploma in photojournalism, of the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalim at the Ateneo de Manila University (ACFJ). Deadline is on Sept. 15.
The program, a distance learning program using a hybrid of online and face-to-face methods, will run from Nov. 2007 to Oct. 2008. Admission is limited to 12 students from all over Asia.
A joint project of ACFJ and the World Press Photo, the program aims to provide comprehensive training to working photojournalists. Among the recent guest lecturers were: John Echave, senior editor, National Geographic, D. J. Clark, Panos Pictures; Alison Morley, head of the documentary photography program, International Center for Photography (N.Y.) and Shahidul Alam, founder of Drik Gallery and the Chobi Mela Festival of Asian Photography. Career counseling fair set
International Education Specialists will host the 19th Career Counseling and Guidance Fair on Sept. 13-14, at the Philippine Trade Training Center, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City, to provide students with the necessary advice to help them make the right choice.

Learning difficulties confab set
Wordlab School will hold the first ever Pan-Asian Learning Difficulties Conference in the ASEAN region on Oct. 25–27, at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Ortigas Avenue. With theme "Learning Difficulties: A Closer Look at the Asian Child,’’ the conference aims to allow experts, educators, parents, professionals from related fields as well as persons with learning difficulties to exchange information, experience, discuss policy and advocacy initiatives, assessment, intervention, and therapy of children and adults with learning difficulties like dyslexia, ADHD, difficulties in language learning, dyscalculia and others. DLSU, Sun Life internship agreement
Sun Life Financial Philippines (SLFP) and De La Salle University (DLSU) recently entered into a memorandum of agreement to accept interns from the school’s business management department.
Under the one-year agreement, each intern will train with SLFP for 40 hours every week over a period of three months. The intern then returns to school to assess and integrate the lessons learned. Patterned after the dual-tech model in Germany, the internship program, a first for SLFP, is expected to benefit the company and the school.
PAFP holds midyear confab
The Philippine Academy of Family Physicians will hold its 17th Midyear Convention (theme: "Family Medicine Specialists at the Core of Healthcare Transformation") on Sept. 6-8, at Oxford Hotel and Fontana Convention Center in Clarkfield, Pampanga. According to Dr. Romulo G. Lacson, president of the Angeles City Chapter and Dr. Reyner S. Capati, president of the Pampanga Chapter, who will host the convention, the Organizing Committee has lined up scientific lectures and tours to Mt. Pinatubo, Subic Safari Park, and vintage churches. The Lorenzo Ruiz Academy in Binondo Manila fetes its graduate students who achieved academic excellence. Among them John Philip Te, high school valedictorian, Batch 2002, who placed second in the May 2007 CPA board examination; Christina Choy Tee, high school salutatorian, Batch 2003, who finished cum laude in MIT; Judy Remylyn Lee L.R.A. high school, 1st hon. mention, Batch 2003 who finished cum laude at UST with B.S. medical technology; and Chasmeneth Chua Hermosura, third hon. mention, Batch 2003 who finished cum laude in UST – Bachelor of Arts, Major in Legal Management.

Nerwin P. Cruz of St. Mary’s College of Baliuag, Bulacan has hurdled the nursing licensure test . He is the eldest of the three kids of Edwin and Nerissa Cruz.
At the young age of 22, Nerwin, a native of Talampas, Bustos, Bulacan, was able to finish his schooling and pass the board, with the little income he has been earned from a make-shift video game business.
The successful board examinee — who likewise gained the savvy of repairing and assembling video game machines — had decided to set up his own business to augment the financial support provided by his parents.
