GMA Artist Center’s Krystal Reyes recently revealed that she has mixed emotions about the nearing conclusion of her primetime drama series "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita."
The series, which is the third part of GMA Network’s 57th anniversary offering, started airing last July and ran for four months. It ends this first week of October.
"I’m very sad and happy. I’m sad because it’s ending but I’m happy that it’s ending with high ratings and I enjoy working with the cast. They are all good to work with," expressed Krsytal in Filipino.
The 11-year old star recalled that she has had a number of physically and emotionally draining scenes in "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita." Some of these were scenes got slapped and she had to cry a lot. These for her though were part of her job as an actress. And it was only in giving her best that she could help the show to be a success. Needless to say, her show was indeed a success as proven by its high ratings in four months.
"Now that it’s ending, I think I’ll have a hard time adjusting my sleeping habits. I’ve been used to sleeping late because of my tapings. But it’s okay as long as I can get up early to go to school," she related.
Despite her hectic taping schedules for "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita," Krystal still found time to attend school and fulfill her academic obligations. A Grade 5 student from Grace Christian Academy in Sta. Maria Bulacan, she said that her studies are also part of her priorities. She’s even proud that she get honors sometimes and even scores a hundred in her tests. Her favorite subject according to her is Pilipino.
"If I don’t get to attend my regular classes, I have a tutor. And she tutors me on our lessons before an exam. This prepares me for my exams when I’m not able to attend class," quipped Krystal.
So how big a star has she become because of "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita?"
"I’m not a big star. But often some students would go our classroom and knock. Then they’d ask if they could have a photo taken with me. But in our house there are always people coming to see me and have photos with me. They also call me Anghelita," smiled Krystal.
She’s also happy with her earnings from "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita." So far she was able to buy her family a van and is now in the process of having their house in Bulacan extended. Her goal at the moment is to save up for a laptop which she will use to kill time "to study, surf or do research for her school projects while on the set of her taping. (Who knows, GMA might just give her one for a job well done for "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita.")
Krystal Reyes is also in Rahyan Carlos’ highly creative and bold independent movie from Creative Futures entitled "Pitong Tagpo." It’s a combination of short films and each short film is shot continuously or done in one take. She plays a genius who has memorized the Bible in the movie.
"This is a different role for me so it was challenging. It was also tiring because you shouldn’t make a mistake," said Krystal.
Krystal has always played goody-goody roles; does she contemplate on portraying an antagonist someday?
"If I’m playing a bad character, I don’t want her to be very, very bad. Because I always pity the victims of the bad character," she replied.
Though there are still no words as to what her next project would be after "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita," she said with confidence that she’ll be getting one soon. She also said that she’s really focused on continuing her acting career.
"My mom told me that until I get other projects, I must stay focused on my acting career. And that we should always accept the projects offered to me because they come once in a lifetime to a person. That’s the reason we didn’t have second thoughts accepting ‘Mga Mata Ni Anghelita’ when it was offered to me. As long as I pass my tests and still do good in school, I’ll accept all prot come my way," she shared.
As of press time, this is what to expect from "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita" according to insiders of the said show. In the week episode entitled "War of Good and Evil," this will be the biggest fight of the allies of Angel Gabriel and the newly awakened Anghelita whom Mayor Carlos thought he had killed. And this fight would determine which side would triumph in Santa Maria.
It should be remembered that Christina embraced the blood of the white witches and she had transformed into one as well. And with Gabriel becoming an Angel, it would seem that the forces of good are only growing in numbers versus the army of Mayor Carlos.
In the finale week, Bitong finally put to rest the mystery behind the disappearance of the crown of Sta, Maria’s Virgin Mary as he disclosed what happened eight years ago.
The questions then that this final week would answer are the following: With the mystery at rest, how would the remaining mortals of Santa Maria fare with this new knowledge? Could Teresa accept the part her father had played in dooming their town? And would Lisa turn back to the light before it all ends? Or would she ignore her guilt and fight Anghelita with Martin and Mayor Carlos?
If only I could reveal its ending on this page! Nevertheless, if you’re a fan, don’t fail to watch this week’s episodes as it is the finale week of "Mga Mata Ni Anghelita!"
