Consumer education will be integrated in the high school curriculum to educate the young on their rights and responsibilities as consumers, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said yesterday.
He said the Department of Education is implementing the program in partnership with Department of Trade and Industry and the National Consumers Affairs Council.
The program, he added complies with Art. 154 Chapter II of the Consumer Welfare Act of the Philippines.
"It is necessary that we instill in the minds of our students the laws covering service warranties, complaints, counterfeiting, and even intellectual property so they will know their responsibilities and privileges as consumers," stressed Lapus.
The new curriculum, he said applies to both public and private high schools. It will be incorporated in social studies, values education, mathematics, science, MAPEH, technical and livelihood education, English and Filipino subjects.
