A ten-wheel truck loaded with 350 sacks of rice worth almost P500,000 fell into a creek yesterday in Quezon City.
The truck driver, identified as George Siapno, was immediately invited for questioning by operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Bureau.
One of his helpers, Rolando Cainglet, was slightly injured and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Cainglet, in an interview before he was taken to the hospital, said their truck (PWN-731) came from Camiling, Tarlac to deliver sacks of rice to a dealer identified as a certain "Mrs. Pacheco" in San Juan City.
He said that at 4:30 a.m., Siapno fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle which rammed the railings of a center island along Araneta Ave. near Calamba St., Barangay Talayan, in front of the Top Rank Boxing and Fitness Gym, then fell into the creek. The sacks of rice were drenched in water.
Some of the residents in the area allegedly took advantage of the accident and looted the truck. (Joel C. Atencio)
