Agents of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) raided over the weekend a big warehouse in Quezon City that imports and sells agricultural machineries and spare parts but allegedly does not pay correct taxes.
Field personnel from the Malabon revenue district office inspected LAC Enterprises along Dangay St., Project 7, Quezon City on the strength of a mission order issued by BIR Commissioner Lilian Hefti.
Malabon-Navotas Revenue District Officer (RDO) Chito Alberto and his assistant James Ferrer said the inspection was in line with their program to intensify tax-mapping operations or street-by-street inspection of businesses which were ordered by Hefti.
They said the warehouse was visited after it was noticed that the establishment’s main office in Tinejeros, Malabon did not have so much activity as most of its business was done at its Quezon City warehouse.
Ferrer said the warehouse is not allegedly registered with the North Quezon City Revenue District Office which has jurisdiction over the place.
They said appropriate taxes and penalties will be slapped against the owners of the firm once the BIR completes its inventory of imported stocks, mostly from Taiwan and Japan, that include engine bearing, carburetor, valve, fuel filter, and piston ring.
The newly installed Malabon RDO noted that there are still many business taxpayers in his district that do not comply with simple BIR requirements like non-registration of their businesses, non-issuance of receipts, and maintenance of books of accounts.
"Unless they comply with our regulations, erring businessmen will be slapped fines ranging from R10,000 up to R50,000," Alberto said. "They also face closure of their businesses and tax evasion charges in court," he added.
