The Soroptimist International of Quezon City (SIQC) held a recognition and testimonial dinner-dance in honor of Amaryllis T. Torres who was recently installed as dean of the College of Social Work and Community Development of the University of the Philippines.
Dean Torres is past president of SIQC. During her term (2002–2004), she propelled the club to become the 2nd member of SI of the Philippines Region’s prestigious Hall of Fame.
Currently, she is the editor-in-chief of SIPR Optima Magazine and district director-elect of MM North East.
Amar is married to Atty. Ruben Torres, former executive secretary of President Fidel V. Ramos and former secretary of labor during the Aquino administration.
SIPR Governor Linabelle Ruth Villarica and other region officers including president-elect Mimi Flor, secretary Paloming Papa, treasurer Thelma Ortiz and co–soroptimists from other clubs came to congratulate Dean Torres. Over-all chairperson of the event is SIQC Carmen Siongco, M.D.
Soroptimist International is an international volunteer service organization of women in business and profession helping which improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.
Soroptimist International of Quezon City is one of among 85 clubs under the SI of the Philippines Region, an affiliate of SI of the Americas. It is headed by its president Margie Ortiz-Luis.
