iDEN technology brings communications to the NEXT level
spacer

Edgard Hilario

Speed. Security. Solutions.

Can you imagine a mobile phone that connects you instantly in half a second?

Absolutely wiretap-free, currently a big necessity?

And with customized solutions to deliver your business and personal communication requirements?

These factors anybody in the communications business can claim, even brag as consumers demand and expectation run high.

But the big question still is, how true and reliable are their words?

In today’s technology scenario where communication is integral in ensuring effectivity and fast response, these new technology promises become so vital -- if delivered.

They are so important that their attainability appears to be close to impossible.

No so impossible, according to iDEN technology and Next Mobile.

And definitely, they added, not too costly.

Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) is a wireless technology that combines the capabilities of a cellular phone, digital push-to-talk, e-mail, messaging, and data applications running on Java mobile in a single network.

iDEN technology is extremely resistant to eavesdropping.

To this day, there is no known commercial equipment that is able to tap in any iDEN Dispatch/Push to Talk call.

This specialized technology is not an "anybody to anybody’’ phone – it is currently utilized by both public and private User Groups that enjoy a multitude of business and personal communication breakthroughs.

Next Mobile Inc., on the other hand, harnesses the iDEN technology to offer the next level in communication – giving consumers the EDGE in:

SPEED – Fast. Really Fast.

Provides the fastest means to communicate, it just takes half a second to connect because of its digital radio function.

SECURITY – Absolutely Untappable.

The protocol employed is very complex and not even the most sophisticated technology can be used to savesdrop over the air. No known device has penetrated the iDEN Network. eavesdropping and wiretapping would be impossible.

SOLUTIONS – Next Mobile gives you what you need.

NMI develops business solutions that are customized and integrated to various business operations, provides an effective Mobile Resource Management (MRM), and enables companies to cut on their operating costs and increase their revenues. The system was integrated with a soft-switch to IP enable the network.

NMI also provides communications solutions even to families by offering mobile VOIP (voice over internet protocol) solutions.

iDEN and Next Mobile, in a recent launch of their products, expressed confidence in their partnership, even in the following matchups.

iDEN vs. Analog Radio

The traditional trunking radio uses analog open channels. Every user can listen to all communication on the channel. The handset is chattering constantly and the user has to listen to all traffic just to react if there is a call for him/her.

Anyone with a very basic radio can listen to all communications over an analog radio system. There is no guaranteed privacy or security.

Analog trunking radio needs one radio channel for one conversation. iDEN places six (6) digitally encoded conversations on one channel by using TDM (time-division multiplex) technology.

A trunking radio service cannot guarantee freedom from blocking because they would need many radio channels. The iDEN network guarantees the blocking (Grade Of Service) even for group calls, so the user never has to wait for his/her turn to get a channel.

This is especially important for real-time, mission-critical communication, like that of security agencies, the Presidential Security Guard, AFP, DHL, PNCC, etc.

iDEN vs. GSM

iDEN has all the features of a GSM system – plus the digital radio service features of speed, security and real-time data handling.

The key differentiator is the instant-connecting dispatch radio service. While it takes 10-20 seconds to dial and connect a cellular call, the dispatch call is connected in less than one second.

The dispatch is cheaper and is billed by the second, while GSM calls are billed for full minutes. Effectively it means that calling by dispatch costs around ½ of cellular. And it is much faster.

The iDEN dispatch even beats texting. When an SMS is sent, the sender does not know whether the receiver handset is on, whether or when the message is delivered, and whether the called party has read it. He has to wait for a reply.

When we push the PTT key and get the "iDEN’’ sound we already know that the receiver’s handset is on and the connection is established. Once we get a reply, the exchange of information is done in a fraction of the time it takes to text.

Next Mobile: Get the Edge

Next Mobile, Inc. is out to make a mark in the Philippines with its All-in-1 Mobile Communications Solution: Instant Digital Dispatch; Cellular Telephone Service; Webtext and Voicemail Messaging Feature and Mobile Commerce Solutions.

NMI is the Philippines' newest Mobile Telephony License holder and has been the first and only fully-integrated digital wireless operator that integrates four types of communications services -- digital two-way radio, digital mobile cellular telephone, data services and messaging.

NMI is out to raise the level of mobile communications with a fully-integrated wireless communication system that is above-standard in speed, security and solutions to both business and consumer sectors.

A new global product called "MyWorld" phone is Next Mobile's current pride and joy.

The MyWorld phone service, which was launched in the second quarter of 2007, enables overseas Filipinos and their relatives in the Philippines to enjoy unlimited international calling at a fixed monthly rate.

Its growth has been remarkable, primarily due to Next Mobile's link to roaming partners in more than 100 countries, its strategic relationship with Sprint Nextel, and its growing partnerships with other telcos abroad.

NMI also provides communications solutions to families by offering mobile VOIP solutions.

Because of the specialized communication system, Next Mobile offers its services primarily to business groups such as freight forwarding, shipping, trucking, distribution, security, construction, wholesale and retail, airlines and the Government, as well as organizations whose communications requirements are mission critical to their operations and profitability.

NMI mobile telecom infrastructure is planned for a nationwide deployment but strong signal coverage is already implemented in Metro Manila and the major roads of North and South of Manila. This area generates approximately 60-70 percent of the country's economic activity and 85% of its exports.

NMI currently has 139 base stations. These cover the entire Metro Manila, the CALABARZON area down to Batangas in the south, parts of Bulacan up to Pampanga and Clark and Subic in the north, as well as Baguio City.

Only an additional 665 base stations will be built in the next few years and will cover not just the primary and secondary, but even the tertiary, cities and municipalities of the country, effectively achieving nationwide coverage.

Like iDEN and Next Mobile said, they're bringing communications to the next level.
