Cebu is second most popular destination for BPO, call centers

EDU LOPEZ

Cebu is not just a premier tourist destination of the country but also the second most popular destination of business process outsourcing (BPO) companies next to Metro Manila.

Cebu can provide the infrastructure, amenities and the balanced lifestyle that draws BPO companies to set up its centers.

There are about thirty BPO and call center companies currently operating within Cebu and more are coming.

Convergys opened its eighth call center facility in the Philippines in Cebu City as demand for voice-based services continues to grow worldwide.

Meanwhile, TeleTech, an inbound customer management call center opened its 700-seat facility in Cebu City with the plan to expand to 1,000 seats.

Accenture, one of the biggest management and technology consulting firms in the world, opened its ninth office in the Philippines and chose Cebu City offering its full range of IT & BPO related services to clients.

Accenture has leased premises in Pioneer House through their recently completed eight-story office building at the Cebu Business Park according to Joey Radovan, Vice Chairman and Head of Global Corporate Services of CB Richard Ellis Philippines.

CBRE facilitated the lease of the entire 6,500 square meter office space of the Pioneer House to Accenture as it continues to source quality office space for its near-term expansion.

Most BPO companies share the belief that being in Cebu supports their growth strategy in the Visayas with its qualified pool of labor, world-class facilities and amenities.

Cebu is strategic to the key urban centers of the Visayas as well as Mindanao thereby allowing them to scale their business as more US-based companies outsource and offshore their back-office operations to the Philippines.

To respond to the existing and upcoming demand for quality office space in Cebu City, new office buildings are coming on stream in the next 12 to 18 months.

The Cebu IT Tower 1 in Cebu Business Park, which CB Richard Ellis Philippines has assisted in the market planning and strategy development, will be ready for occupancy by the last quarter of this year.

Given its close proximity to commercial amenities such as the Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu IT Tower 1 provides incoming BPO companies coming from the US and India accommodation suitable to their requirements.

For companies looking at buildings which offer large floor plates that call centers and BPOs look for, CBRE is also the marketing consultant for the TAFT IT Park which offers a large floor plate of 5,000 square meters on a standalone facility.
