South Korea’s Samsung has unveiled its latest high definition TV and handheld multimedia devices product lines, aiming to strengthen its foothold as one of the dominant home electronics makers in the Philippines.
The company, in a press briefing last week, unveiled its latest high-definition LCD TV product lines, including a newly announced 70-inch model.
"We are targetting the premium market for our latest 70-inch HDTV line," Jerry Lacson, general manager for marketing at Samsung Philippines, disclosed.
The new product, with a price tag of around P2.5 million, is the largest of its kind, according to Samsung.
"Even at such a price, we’ve been getting advance orders for this product," Lacson said, adding that the massive HDTV model has not even been introduced in any of Samsung’s numerous showrooms.
Lacson disclosed that one customer is a prominent business figure who ordered two units of the 70-inch HDTV.
The company has also generated substantial advance orders, said Lacson.
However, the executive declined to name the companies which ordered the products.
Samsung also announced newly-released LCD TV models including the latest units for its 40–inch, 42–inch, and 52–inch TV products.
Collectively called the Samsung F8, Samsung said the new products feature only the latest technology in high-definition TV.
"The F8 is the very epitome of Samsung’s technological leadership in HD TVs, and we hope its launch will help introduce customers to the wonder of full HD," Dong Ha Jang, Samsung Philippines VP for consumer electronics, said in a statement.
Samsung meanwhile unveiled its handheld multimedia and MP3 devices, which are designed to compete directly the with market-leading iPod from Apple.
Samsung executives said the new products have enhancements for all types of audio and video multimedia files.
Samsung said the YPP2, YP-S5, and YP-T10, all feature larger screen, the latest bass-sound technology, and fully-customizable interfaces.
Perhaps the most notable technology included in the new product line is the wireless earphones, that are connected to the device via Bluetooth.
Samsung said this eliminates the need for wired earphones that could get entangled while a user is on the go.
The firm further said all of its product lines are now available in the domestic market.
