A photo exhibit featuring Manny Goloyugo
Thirty monochrome images that span thirty five years of photographic journeys, Manny Goloyugo exhibits his works at The Alcove Perspective Gallery at the Filipinas Heritage Library in Makati which started on November 24.
The photographs, taken in his early years as staff photographer for several news publications during the martial law years and towards the late ‘90s, were all taken using black-and-white film. He has received numerous awards for his works including the Most Outstanding Achievement Award during the National Photography Week of 1988.
With more than three decades of photojournalistic experience, he has supplied images for various publications such as Daily Express newspaper, Expressweek magazine, Weekend magazine, Lifestyle Asia magazine, Mabuhay magazine, and Asiaweek magazine, among others.
He also served as photo editor for Manila Bulletin and Today Independent Daily News. A photojournalist at heart, his coverage took him to all over the country and to several countries abroad documenting presidential events. But he never turned away from scenes that he observed during a coverage. These images on exhibit are the result of his keen observations.
Manny’s early influences include photojournalism greats HC Bresson, Tony Ray Jones, Alex Webb, and lately, Ami Vitali. Most of his photographs were taken with an Olympus OM system, Nikon F2, Minolta Maxxum, all film-based cameras. At present, he uses the Olympus E1 digital system. He considers the 11mm wideangle as his normal lens for street photography and a 50-200mm zoom for landscape compositions.
Manny’s book credits include Pope John Paul II We Love You , Eye on ASEAN, Dept. of Tourism’s Spirit Of Place, Philippine Miltary Academy year book, among others. He joined several exhibitions here and abroad, and is a much sought-after resource speaker for camera clubs, media entities, private, and corporate groups.
Now retired from professional photography, Manny embarks on another journey, returning to the many places where he took photographs. He shall bring with him images to share with the local community. This travelling exhibit which is scheduled first quarter of next year, shall benefit public school children and others.
