ZAMBOANGA CITY — "Pascua na Zamboanga 2007," an almost month-long Yuletide festival aimed to spread Christmas cheers and spirit, kicked off yesterday afternoon with a colorful lantern parade in the city’s principal streets participated by city government officials and employees.
Organized by the city government, Pascua na Zamboanga is a yearly undertaking purposely to share the joys of Christmas, a Christian festival marking the birth of Jesus Christ on Dec. 25.
The lantern parade starting at 5 p.m. from Mayor Climaco Ave. (fronting the Fire Department) ended at Plaza Pershing where a program was held.
Highlight of the event was the "hanging of greens" which officially marked the start of the Christmas season in Zamboanga.
A Christmas chorale composition was also held during the program at Plaza Pershing where a giant Christmas tree stands with its glittering lights calling the delightful attention of the people – young and old alike.
The Rizal Park fronting the City Hall is also well lighted and adorned with all forms of Christmas trimmings.
