CHED, industry groups brace for 1st business education summit

After implementing a new curriculum for Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) course in the hopes of bridging the gap between the academe and the industry, the Commission on Higher Education, in cooperation with several industry groups, will hold the first-ever Business Education-Industry Summit on December 6 at the AIM Conference Center, Makati City.

The implementation of the outcomes of the summit will be discussed during the 7th Annual Conference of the Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business on December 7 in the same venue.

With the theme "Developing the Global Filipino," the summit will bring together representatives from business, industry, government and academe to set priorities for convergence. The summit will address future global trends in human resource development, strategic directions and initiatives

Speakers include Manny Pangilinan of PLDT, Fr. Bienvenido Niebres of Ateneo de Manila University and Lance Gokongwei of JG Summit Holdings and Robinsons Retail Group. Vice President Noli de Castro be deliver the keynote address.

Industry leaders, associations and administrators, deans and educators of schools, colleges, and universities, officials of government agencies and those involved with, or has interest in, producing globally competitivE3 graduates are expected to attend.

Aside from the panel discussions, there will be breakout sessions where recommendations and resolutions from the summit participants are expected to be compiled. This hopes to serve as the foundation of work for the Philippines Business Education Industry Partnership.

‘’The summit will certainly be a good venue for convergence," said Dr. Conrad Inigo, Chair of the Business Industry Summit. "It is high time that several industry leaders join hands to make sure that business education in the country is at par with the growing demands of the business."

Topics include learning content - syllabi development, faculty development for new subjects, collaborative researches, publication of instructional materials, career assessment and assistance, on the job training for students, and placements of graduates.

The New BSBA Curriculum, which was recently implemented in all colleges and universities in the country, covers all five majors, namely, marketing management, human resource management, financial management, operations management and business economics. The new program is standardized for all educational institutions and is more relevant to the changing business landscape today.

Capital Markets Institute of the Philippines (CMIP), Philippine Marlketing Association (PMA), Council of Economics Educators (CECON), Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), People Management of the Philippines (PMAP), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)

Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), Institute of Solidarity in Asia, Inc. (ISA), Production and Operations Management Association of the Philippines (PROMAP), Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Philippine Council of Deans & Educators in Business (PCDEB), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), will support the event.
