Jill Ngo-Crisologo: On fitness & confidence

With her fit and healthy body, no wonder that professional dancer, and fitness instructor Jill Ngo-Crisologo is an inspiration to many women who want to look and feel fabulous through the latest in fitness.

Her passion for the performing arts and fitness has given her the confidence that truly shows whenever she’s on the dance floor or teaching the newest exercise.

Jill oozes with confidence even more whenever she sways to the hypnotic, sensual beat of belly dance, the latest dance exercise that has captured the hearts of Filipinas of all ages, shapes and sizes. She showed her love for this ancient dance at the recently concluded Belly Fest 2007, the first-ever Philippine Belly Dance Festival that gathered together belly dance aficionados to celebrate a day of health, fitness and confidence.

"Belly dance is effective in helping women achieve confidence because if gives them control of their bodies and not the other way around. As they improve on their craft, they realize they are the masters of their own body, and that greatly helps in boosting their confidence," said Jill, who has been teaching belly dance for almost four years now at her own fitness center, Peak Performance Dance and Fitness.

What Jill loves about belly dance, also known as raqs sharqi or "Dance of the Orient," is that it is non-impact and non-injurious, and enables her to experiment with the movements. "As a jazz dancer, I was used to high-impact dance routines. Belly dance helps me relax a bit with my routines. Because the dance varies from country to country, you can do whatever movement you like while retaining your gracefulness and power."

With the physical demands of her active lifestyle, it is no surprise then that Jill maintains a healthy lifestyle. "Leading a healthy lifestyle is very important to me because my body is my investment. If I don’t take care of it, it won’t serve me well."

Jill’s passion for healthy living most importantly involves keeping a watchful eye on her diet particularly to benefit her digestive health. "As a dancer and fitness instructor, it is important that I am very graceful and flexible. That’s why I make sure that I take care of my digestive system so I can move more confidently and gracefully. I eat a lot of fiber-rich foods and milk for healthy bones."
