UP, AdMU in top 500 universities
The University of the Philippines (UP) and the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) made it to the list of Top 500 Universities of the World in the 2007 Times Higher-QS World University Rankings.
UP ranks 398th, while the AdMU takes the 454th spot. UP got a score of 34.7, while AdMU scored 30.8
De La Salle University of Manila and the University of Santo Tomas which previously made the top 500, didn’t make it this time. They obtained a score of 23.9 and 20.8 respectively.
The top 20 universities of the world, according to the survey, are: Harvard University, US; University of Cambridge, UK; Yale University, US; University of Oxford, UK; Imperial College, UK; Princeton University, US; California Institute of Technology, US; University of Chicago, US; University College London, UK; Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US; Columbia University, US; McGill University, Canada; Duke University, US; University of Pennsylvania, US; Johns Hopkins University, US; Australian National University, Australia; University of Tokyo, Japan; University of Hong Kong, China; Cornell University, US; Carnegie Mellon University, US.
The top 200 included four from the developing world: Two in Brazil, one from Mexico and, for the first time, an African university, Cape Town, in 200th place.
Among the 15 universities who made it to the list of the top 500, two came from Singapore, five from Thailand, four from Malaysia, two from Indonesia, and two from the Philippines.
Mapua high school reunion set Nov. 30
The Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) High School will hold a grand reunion on Friday, Nov. 30, from 6 p.m., at the Quezon City Sports Plaza, E. Rodriguez Ave., Quezon City. Hosted by the Class of 1983, celebrating classes include Batch ‘57 (golden jubilarians), Batch ‘67 (ruby jubilarians), and Batch ‘82 (silver jubilarians). To be awarded are Outstanding Mapuans in various fields. Tickets at the gate.
TUA alumni homecoming set
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of Trinity University of Asia (TUA), formerly Trinity College of Quezon City, holds an alumni homecoming today, Nov. 29, at the campus on E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Cathedral Heights, Quezon City. Highlights include the ratification of constitution and by-laws of TUA College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association (TUA-CASAA) and the affirmation fo the role of the association in TUA-CAS. All graduates are invited.
UST high school reunion scheduled
The University of Santo Tomas High School Class 1965 will hold a reunion on Friday, Nov. 30, 6 p.m. at Reunion Square, Remedios Circle, Malate, Manila. The affair is titled, "Matamis na Nakalipas Ulitin, Sariwain, Tanawin." A night of dancing to the music of the 60s to the 80s, fun games, and lots of door prizes is in store.
Fatima College of Dentistry partnership forged
Our Lady of Fatima College of Dentistry forged a five-year memorandum of agreement with the Hong Kong University Faculty of Dentistry. The MOU was formally signed by OLFU Dean Arturo De Leon and HKU Dean Lakshman Samaranayake in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. The signing coincided with the 25th founding anniversary celebration of HKU’s Faculty of Dentistry.
The agreement between OLFU and HKU provides both universities with the opportunity for collaborative teaching and research endeavors, faculty and student exchange grants, best practices consultation and benchmarking programs and other inter-institutional privileges and benefits.
