Dell introduces new products that simplify enterprise computing
spacer

While most shops spend around 70% of their budget just "keeping the lights on" and leaving only 30% for innovation that can drive growth, Dell upholds the tradition of simplifying IT through innovation.

And now, Dell maximizes energy efficiency and simplifies enterprise computing as it launches its new family of PowerEdge servers – including the PowerEdge R900.

The new Dell PowerEdge R900 server is the solution to high energy costs, slow running software, and difficult and unsecure deployment of servers, perfect for addressing the vast majority of micro, small, and medium enterprise computing needs. It is the company’s highest ever performing IT server on SPECjbb testing, built based on solving the challenges customers are currently facing rather than focusing on one specific form factor.

"This is really what Simplify IT is all about," said Daniel Bounds, a senior manager for Dells PowerEdge server division. "We have talked to a lot of our customers and this is all based on their feedback, and what they want is much more energy-efficient servers and a much easier way to manage the servers that they have in the data center."

Advantages of PowerEdge R900

Small and medium businesses looking to consolidate their data centers and looking to move from direct attach or internal storage can now balance everyday management without an army of high-priced consultants and with the lowest environmental impact.

The Dell PowerEdge R900 can deliver supreme database performance, topping SPECjAppServer2004 results from Sun and Hewlett-Packard for 2-node servers. It features the latest generation of Intel Xeon’s quad-core processors that provide the compute performance demanded by enterprise applications without the need for expensive proprietary technologies. Customers will be pleased with its increased processor capability which can run Java business applications up to 27 percent faster than with an Intel Xeon 5300 series processor. It also has power monitoring capabilities that reduce energy consumption; as well as a variety of security features for easier protection of critical information.

The Dell PowerEdge R900 comes with a free partner program called the Dell OpenManage 5.3 power management and virtualization which gives customers more control and choices in enterprise management by allowing them to choose the tools they use the most without sacrificing any control. While competition charges a premium for their monitoring functionality, Dell Open Manage does not charge for power monitoring and virtual machine management.

How PowerEdge R900 simplifies IT

The new Dell PowerEdge server simplifies IT by reducing update time by 99%. It also eliminates the need to go offline to complete updates. Its script generator is another remarkable feature that reduces deployment and update time and costs. It also features a standards-based power monitoring capabilities for controlling power consumption and energy-related expenses.

By answering the customers’ most sought after challenges in building the industry’s first server optimized for virtualization, Dell is poised to deliver a new category of "business-ready" computing for customers with fully optimized solutions ready to deploy, making virtualization a reality for customers of all sizes and leading the market in providing systems that adapt to the specific needs of IT. All new servers are now available to order worldwide. For more info, please visit www.dell.com/poweredge.
