When two become One

WND Wind Duo 2000

Edgard A. Hilario

I have two phones The left and the right Hold them together and...

...you can call them simply as the WND Wind Duo 2000.

Or the Dynamic Duo. Or the Super Twins.

Or Double-Trouble?

Frankly, we don’t know what to say when we first got hold of this device, fresh off the Techews Lab (where a lot of things continue to tickle our techie minds).

We wanted to say "funky" at first, almost decided for "wow" then "cool" but ended up with "whatizzit" when it finally sinked in.

The WND Wind Duo 2000, by the way, is our first-hand experience to a dual phone -- glued back-to-back.

Yes. Yes. Two phones. Each with its own set of features. Independent of each other. But sealed by fate (or by its "genius" maker) to co-exist.

Back-to-back. Like Peaches and Herb. Donnie and Marie. Bono and Cher...Guy and Pip.

The WND Wind Duo 2000, depending on how you decide to use it (or them?), can like Peaches and Herb play good music.

Just imagine the ingenuity to combine two phones in a single unit. Say you want or need to use two networks, the WND 2000 is your other option aside from the dual-SIM units currently in the market.

For the WND Wind Duo 2000, everything’s been doubled. We say and we mean SIM card x2, phonebook x2, screen x2, keypad x2 -- one each in the front and another in...err..the other front.

Literally, the WND Wind Duo 2000 is two thin GSM candybars glued together.

Welcome to the Donnie and Marie Show.

Remember them, Hollywood’s famous brother-sister act decades ago? We do, but we won’t tell you how old we are (smartass!).

Well, Donnie and Marie were known for their golden voices, as well as their well-rehearsed onscreen banters.

With the WND Wind Duo 2000, there’s always the possibility of one face ringing while you talk to the other. Now the big question is: Can you talk to both phones 1 and 2 at the same time?

Bono and Cher were great in the 60s and 70s (we think). Together, when things were fine, they play really good music. Now just remember to answer your partner "I got you, babe" quick when he/she calls even while you’re in the middle of a phone conversation.

The next big question: When entertaining two calls, can the other party hear what your’re saying to the other? Oh, pray that you’re not in the middle of a flirtation!

The WND Wind Duo 2000 has no camera (as of now). But, aside from its solid reception, boasts of the following:

Frequency Band: Tri-band 900/1800/1900

Dimensions: 97mm x 48mm x 17mm

Weight: 100g

Front and Back Display: 65,636 colors, 128 x 160, 1.5 inch OLED

Battery: Li-polymer, 1660mAh integrated

Standby Time: Over 150hrs with Standard Battery

Talk Time: Over 6hrs with Standard Battery

It is also an MP3 player with Bluetooth, Java MIDP 2.0 and WAP.

Heard that somewhere, the concept of a dual phone is gaining popularity. A lot of people now agree that it’s better, and more practical, to own a dual phone than shamelessly display non-sexy bulges on your pants.

Guy and Pip were once so popular, too. But some good things never last.

We wonder, what happens when one side of this device suddenly conks out. What if the damage proved to be beyond repair?

Now ain’t that a bummer?
