Mitigating climate change is a team effort.
For the Philippines to weather the effects of global warming, Filipinos must work together for a common goal.
"The government, the private sector and all individuals must do their share to abate the effects of climate change," said Ecological Society of the Philippines (ESP) president Antonio M. Claparols. "We do not have the luxury of time. We must act now with vigilance and resolve or face the consequences of poverty and an ecological disaster."
For a start, Claparols said, the Philippine government must promote organic agriculture. Studies show that organic agriculture and localized food and energy systems can compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions.
Scientists also said organic farming can outyield conventional agriculture by a factor of 1:3 and green manure alone could provide all nitrogen needs.
"ESP is calling for real action on the ground," Claparols added.
Among the effects of global warming are the fast rising of sea levels, heavy rains, droughts and heat waves all over the world.
