The Philippine Women Judges Association (PWJA) was organized in 1987 to serve as a venue for the exchange of views and information among women jurists in the Philippines.
From its humble beginnings, the PWJA has grown to an organization with over 500 members,
placing emphasis on continuing judicial education for its member magistrates and providing opportunities to discuss burning legal issues.
Since its first national conference in 1989, the PWJA has tackled topics that are relevant and transformative. This year, the PWJA’s Annual Convention-Seminar takes on the theme "Lady Magistrates: Within and Beyond the Halls of Justice," highlighting the commitment of the PWJA to contribute to the maintenance of the rule of law, the fair and speedy dispensation of justice, and the protection of fundamental civil-political liberties and socio-economic rights.
To be held at the historic landmark Manila Hotel, the Annual Convention is conducted with the support of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and the Philippine Judicial Academy. The Annual Convention will have distinguished speakers on such topics as problem areas in the Writ of Amparo and the Writ of Habeas Data, Environmental Law, and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
We congratulate the Philippine Women Judges Association, led by its President, Supreme Court Associate Justice Minita V. Chico-Nazario, its Officers and Members, as they hold their Annual Convention-Seminar with the support of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and the Philippine Judicial Academy headed by Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno. We wish them success in all their endeavors.
