To improve the day-to-day operations of the pro league, the PBA Commissioner’s Office recently made some changes with its administrative structure.
PBA Commissioner Sonny Barrios has revived the position of executive director and appointed Rickie Santos to the position.
Santos will oversee the game-day operations and the technical committee departments.
The move made by Barrios, who left for the United States early this week, will be presented to the PBA-board for approval upon his arrival.
Pending the board confirmation chaired by Red Bull’s Tony Chua, Santos remains as chief of operations as well as technical committee head.
Perry Martinez was supposed to be transferred from technical to the operations, declined the post and opted to retire citing health reasons among others.
Former University of the Philippines basketball player Ramil Cruz has been named supervisor of the referees.
Santos said Cruz’s appointment was signed last March 1.
"He’s now heading the referees training, although, in a way, he’s also a trainee of PBA technical consultant Romy Guevarra," Santos said.
During the term of Noli Eala, who served as commissioner from early 2003 to August 2007, the position of executive director was dropped from the administrative structure of the league.
But with its revival, the E.D., also known as deputy commissioner, may lighten the work of the commissioner.
The PBA is also deferring its decision in naming a new marketing director following the resignation of Rico Meneses.
The three branches of marketing were designated to three persons, Barrios for creative arts, Santos for game day operations, and media bureau head Willie Marcial as Officer-in-Charge for sales and special projects.
