Macau fight next for Pacman

Nick Giongco

LOS ANGELES — Las Vegas, and not Macau, should take the lead role once again in June if Manny Pacquiao gets past Juan Manuel Marquez next week at the Mandalay Bay.

"What we are looking at right now is whether to delay Macau until the fall and go back to Vegas in June because the MGM wants another Pacquiao fight and they’ve asked me if I would accommodate them by having the next (Pacquiao) fight and then go to Macau," said Arum.

"We are considering it," said Arum, whose Top Rank office is headquartered in Sin City.

While it appears that the 76-year-old Arum is looking beyond Marquez, it was because he was amazed with what he saw during Wednesday’s workout at the Wild Card.

"I have been looking at him and have you ever seen him in this kind of shape? Never!" said Arum, answering his own question.

"This is the best shape he’s ever been in and this is the shape he’s gotta be in now for every fight that he has and whenever he’s in this kind of shape, there’s nobody that could beat him and that’s my conclusion," said Arum, adding that Pacquiao could have not reached tip-top shape if he had opted to train in the Philippines.

Arum disclosed that ticket sales are enormous and that more than a week before the bout, gate receipts show that this would emerge as the biggest-selling Pacquiao fight to date.

Arum has even finalized talks to put up closed-circuit facilities to accommodate the tourists who won’t be able to buy tickets for the fight.

"The people of Las Vegas can see the fight on pay-per-view but the tourists won’t and they can’t get it in their hotel rooms but they can watch it on closed circuit (at a pop)," added Arum.
