I was expecting the usual showroom atmosphere (read: boring and uninspired) but to my surprise it was not. The experience of touring a gallery of the latest in Epson technology was worth my time because the people behind it put their collective efforts to make it entertaining and educational at the same time.

My tour of the Epson Solution Centre was facilitated by Christer Joseph Destajo. He manages the activities and operation of the Solution Centre. Aside from the Solution Centre, he is also the head of the Pre-Sales Department of Epson Business Products. When I asked him for an interview he graciously obliged.

TOC(Tech o’ clock): What is an Epson solution?

CJD (Epson Business Solution Center): Epson has a wide range of business solutions. They can be classified according to the following categories:

It provides end- to- end solutions for banking business. The banking solution is made up of the following: POS queuing system, Cheque imaging and validation system and Passbook printing. The objective is to increase sales productivity and security for bank clients.

For total printing solutions of large corporations /business we have monochrome laser, coloured laser and dot matrix printers combined with document scanner for digital archiving.

Provide database management for point of sale (POS) and printing solution with the terminal module printers ideal for retail and food & beverage (F&B) business use.

Business projectors with advance state of the art wireless connections features and PC less and plug and play presentations combined with the 3LCD technology.

Large format printing for digital proofing and computer aided design projects with state of the art water resistant inks.

TOC: What is reason for putting up the Epson Solution Centre? Who do you have in mind when you conceptualized it?

CJD: We have always been committed to offering the most outstanding range of products, services and applications to meet the growing demands of business work. Centrally located at 8th level of Anson’s Centre, the new Epson Solutions Centre is a one-stop hub for all your business, commercial and professional digital imaging needs.

TOC: Where is printing technology headed? Will printers become unnecessary?

CJD: Epson printing technology will continue to excel in providing new innovations and new technologies as time goes by. Printers will always be a necessity in all aspects of business

TOC: What do you think will be the direction of Epson technology in the coming years?

CJD: Epson will provide cutting-edge imaging solutions, focusing on the fields of imaging on paper, imaging on screen, and imaging on glass.

The scope of visual images has expanded as a result of the increasing popularity of broadband communication and digital broadcasting. Epson aims to achieve new growth through on-demand and small-lot printing, focusing on both the home and office markets.

Amid the shift toward high-resolution digital broadcasting, Epson aims to create new demand for its projectors both in the office and in the home. In the medium and long term, Epson plans to create revolutionary on-screen imaging products that represent a convergence of cutting-edge technologies.
