Edison D. Ong

Symantec Corporation has taken the initiative to ensure that many of its critical solutions for Windows products will be compatible with Windows Server 2008.

Further, that by doing so, it helps ease management challenges while strengthening security and protecting business continuity.

At the Symantec Philippine users’ solutions launch leg, company executives explained the features of Symantec’s enterprise-ready single portfolio of integrated products and services that enables small, mid-sized, and enterprise businesses to more effectively secure and manage their Windows environments.

Highlighted at the gathering were the Symantec Backup Exec 12 and Backup Exec Systems Recovery 8 softwares.

Vic Ciencia, systems engineering manager for Philippines, Symantec Corp., underscored that the new version of Backup Exec has passed Microsoft’s technical bar for best practices with security, availability, reliability and Windows fundamentals, and earned Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 software certification – the first one. Backup Exec 12 holds the Gold Standard in Windows Data Protection.

"We are trying to relieve IT administrators (of their) headaches," Ciencia remarked during the local media launch edition held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

For his part, Al Ramon dela Cruz, country sales manager for Philippines, Symantec, underscored confidence in a connected infrastructure, information and interactive environment. Such confidence, specifically to deploy Microsoft Windows, he said, Symantec delivers.

Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers – the first backup and recovery software logo-certified for Windows Server 2008 – provides proven, efficient, disk-to-disk-to-tape backup and recovery for Windows-centric environments.

Ciencia explained that Backup Exec 12 rapidly restores data from a single pass backup with patentpending Granular Recovery Technology, which obviates the need to run mailbox backups to recover individual Exchange mails, and makes it easy to restore SharePoint, SharePoint Services, and Active Directory data – from documents to user attributes and properties – in seconds.

De la Cruz and Ciencia also led the announcement of the Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8, the latest version of its complete and rapid Windows system recovery solution – now with flexible offsite protection and enhanced recovery capabilities, integration with Symantec security and systems management solutions, and certified support for Windows server 2008.

Ciencia explained that with disk-based Backup Exec System Recovery, organizations can recover from system loss or disasters in minutes, even in dissimilar hardware, virtual environments or in remote, unattended locations.

To enhance an organization’s disaster recovery efforts, Backup Exec System Recovery 8 now includes flexible offsite protection that enables administrators to automatically copy recovery points to a remote server using FTP or to an external hard drive or network share.

In addition, a new Granular Restore Option enables organizations to recover Microsoft Exchange mailboxes, folders, messages, and attachments; individual Microsoft SharePoint documents; and individual files or folders in minutes from a single, multi-tab interface.

Ciencia also focused on Symantec’s ThreatCon global security alerting system to enable system recovery points to be captured immediately and automatically in the event of an elevated Internet ThreatCon level.

ThreatCom measures malicious level throughout the world, he explained, "before we get hit by an attack, we already have a backup. Before our system gets compromised, we already have a clean back up."
