The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said yesterday that it is ready to provide 24-hour assistance during the Holy Week.
Elpi Cuna, Meralco vice president for corporate communications, said all Meralco emergency crews will be on alert, as he ensured that Meralco will be able to respond to any contingency.
He said that this early, it already has contingency measures in place in case of unexpected power outages.
Cuna added that although Mexico regularly upgrades and maintains its facilities to ensure that they are in tip-top condition, there are instances, although rarely, when some areas under the Meralco franchise experience localized and isolated power interruptions.
He also reminded the public to be conscious of electrical safety at home.
"As part of our fire prevention campaign, we advise our customers to observe electrical safety in their homes. Simple safety measures such as using only light bulbs of specified wattage for lamp or lighting fixture, avoiding "octopus connections," using the correct size of fuse, and keeping combustible materials away from lamps and other sources of heat are some of several simple reminders we often tell our customers," Cuna said.
In case of emergencies, Cuna reminded customers to call Meralco’s 24-hour Call Center at 16-211.
"Our Call Center is ready to respond to our customers’ needs at any given time. Its service is available 24/7," he said.
