It is a new and improved successor of the Canon’s entry-level range of DSLR cameras, and is designed to meet the needs of the prosumer and photo-enthusiasts by packing in Canon’s most advanced photographic technologies to date.

Top-notch image performance

Canon’s powerful DIGIC III imaging processor technology, first used in the mark 3, provides the sheer processing power necessary to deliver the EOS 450D’s low noise images and natural color reproduction. In addition, a new 12.2-megapixel APS-C sized (with 1.6x crop factor) CMOS sensor produces high-resolution image files of approximately 4272 x 2848 pixels.

The extended 14-bit analog-digital (A/D) signal conversion processing capability allows life-like color reproduction, superior tonal graduation as well as a wider dynamic range. This translates into images that are rich and vibrant. With the images of 12.2 megapixels, any photos taken by the EOS 450D can be easily cropped for creative effects and printed up to A3 size.

EOS 450D is able to handle almost all lighting situations with a range from ISO100 to ISO1,600. The improved auto setting for ISO speed selection allows the photographer to concentrate on subject matter by automatically matching ISO speed (up to ISO 800 as compared to the EOS 400D’s ISO 400 limit) to the ideal exposure settings.

Extended shooting capability

The EOS 450D uses a newly developed 9-point AF sensor for ultra-fast and accurate focusing. The centre-AF point works as a high-precision, cross-type AF point with f/2.8 and brighter lenses. As with the EOS 40D, the sensor automatically corrects for slight shifts in the point of focus caused by different light sources for more consistent AF results. The EOS 450D‘s motor drive works with the AF sensor for continuous shooting at approximately 3.5 frames per second (fps).

For increased flexibility, the EOS 450D incorporates Live View shooting mode, which allows users to shoot images using the LCD monitor (with a 3-inch, 230,000-dot TFT high precision) instead of using the optical viewfinder.

Improved handling and reliability

Maintenance of the EOS 450D is more effortless with the EOS Integrated Cleaning System, which ingeniously incorporates 3 techniques that work in tandem to eliminate dust particles. The self-cleaning sensor unit literally vibrates off any dust particles that may have collected on the sensor when the EOS 450D is turned on and off. Dust removal software features during post-processing (using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional application) aids in removing dust spots in the digital photographs. EOS 450D’s housing is made from materials that minimizes dust generation.

New kit lens bundle

The EOS 450D is available for purchase with the camera body alone or as a bundle package with the EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS kit lens. Designed for Canon DSLR cameras that use the EF-S lens mount, the EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS lens was developed in response to an increasing demand for an affordable lens with Image Stabilizer (IS) technology. Even with the Image Stabilizer function built-in, the new lens retains almost the same size and weight as the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II USM lens, while compensating for up to four f-stops of shutter speed.

The EF-S 18-55mm IS lens maintains high image quality throughout the entire zoom range with precision aspherical UD lens elements that corrects aberrations and lens coating that minimizes ghosting effects and flare. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.25 m at all zoom focal lengths, the EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS lens’s circular aperture helps to produce beautifully even background blur, while the optimized Auto-focus control provides for precision focusing.
