Lying-in clinics set up to decongest Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital

Danny Fajardo

DUMAGUETE CITY — The Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) is putting up lying-in clinics to decongest the government hospital.

Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo said that by making use of the local government unit health centers also as lying-in clinics, minor illnesses such as fever and other similar diseases – and even normal delivery – can be accommodated at the LGU centers or health offices.

Sedillo said the provincial government will get the funds from the "FOURmula One for Health" or F1 project, a five-year health program which has an allocated fund of R86 million.

The program is also an effort of the European Commission (EC) intended to improve the delivery of health services in Negros Oriental.

Sedillo also said the establishment of lying-in clinics is in response to the perennial problem of decongestion at NOPH.

Negros Oriental had earlier been chosen as one of the 16 provincial beneficiaries of the grant from the EC and the Department of Health (DoH) under the F1 program. Of the R86 million, R39 million will come from EC while the remaining P47 million will be sourced by DoH through a loan facility from the World Bank.

The DoH funds will be used for training and capability building, while the EC grant will be used for capital outlay and upgrading of hospital equipment.
