ALTAVAS, Aklan – Joint police elements of Altavas and Batan towns have busted a notorious robbery syndicate following the arrest of four of its members, reports said.
The four arrested suspects were said to be responsible for the robbery of the owner of a gasoline station here.
Insp. Gilbert Valera, Altavas chief of police, identified the suspects as Wennie Tolosa, fishpond caretaker; Elorde Graciano Jr., 19, former gasoline station employee; John Mark Tolosa, 18, and a 16-year-old suspect whose name has been withheld being a minor.
All are residents of Barangay Camanci, Batan, Aklan.
Rey Arsenio, owner of Altavas Caltex service station, identified one of them, a certain "JR", as the one who had forcibly grabbed his bag.
The suspects, he said, were then armed with a homemade shotgun.
They carted away the gasoline station’s P103,000 earnings and fled towards Batan.
No one was hurt in the heist, the police said.
In the ensuing hot pursuit operation, Valera and his men coordinated with Batan policemen and managed to get hold of Graciano and John Mark Tolosa.
The two had yielded P15,190, the remainder of their share of their six-figure loot.
The minor, who served as look-out, had named Wennie as the mastermind. He was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
"This was the second time they attempted to rob the victim. They have no criminal records in Altavas and Batan, although police are still cheking records of the elder Tolosa.
The minor could be a state witness," Valera said.
Valera said the three suspects waited for hours inside Arsenio’s house in Barangay Man-up, Batan.
When the victims alighted from his vehicle, the suspects announced the hold-up.
Wennie met them in Barangay Camanci, Batan.
The police conducted a follow-up operation in Camanci but failed to recover the handgun and the P50,000 share of Wenni.
