Lindborg commends leadership of PPS steering committee
DAVAO CITY — United States Agency for International Development (USAID) mission director Jon Lindborg cited the "great progress" made in the country’s infrastructure program at a business forum held here.
USAID and private corporations commended the government for what they called "impressive developments" in Mindanao and in the entire country.
"Many problems facing high-priority projects were resolved, thanks to the leadership provided by the PPS steering committee," Lindborg said.
President Arroyo created the Pro-Performance System (PPS) in 2006 to ensure the effective, efficient, and transparent implementation of infrastructure projects.
The PPS steering committee is composed of Presidential Management Staff head Secretary Cerge M. Remonde, Ambassador Donald Dee, business representative; Ambassador Marita Magpili-Jimenez, representative for international development organizations; Dr. Vincent Fabella, NGO representative; Richard Nalupta, youth representative; Fr. Anton Pascual, religious representative; Ruperto Nicdao Jr., media representative; and Mayor Ramon Guico, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines representative.
PPS was cited by Lindborg as key to resolving the many problems plaguing important infrastructure projects.
In the same forum, he also cited President Arroyo’s roll-on, roll-off (roro) network of roads and boat terminals as very beneficial to the people.
"We can see from the ro-ro map that the President’s vision of a Strong Republic Nautical Highway is coming together," he said, adding "the PPS steering committee has been instrumental in getting the key ro-ro terminals connected along the Central Nautical Highway, linking Bicol with Masbate, going down to Cebu, Bohol and Camiguin."
Lindborg is among the business leaders and donor-community members who are bullish and enthusiastic about the recent developments and improvements in the country’s infrastructure projects.
At the same forum, Remonde said that the outpouring of support for and confidence in the government’s infrastructure-development effort and the country’s economic performance as a whole is very inspiring.
"The high positive note struck by our development partners and sector augur well for the infrastructure program," he said.
"The spirit of partnership, unity and commitment on display makes a convincing argument that today is indeed the best time to invest in the Philippines," he added.
The 3rd National Government Infrastructure Forum in Davao, under the aegis of USAID, brought together the various government agencies, the private sector and local and foreign investors to assess implementation and areas of cooperation on various projects.
