Of graduation days, prom nights and getting geared up for summer
Jaye C. Bautista
The humid days but cool balmy nights are clear indication that summer’s in the offing.
Not to mention the junior and senior proms left nd right and graduation ceremonies that go on every day.
I personally bore witness to a very important Graduation day. That of my one and only Keoni. Last Saturday, proud momma Jaye was a-beamin with joy together with Grandpa Johnny, Lola Nene, Lolo and Lola Villaraza and our ever faithful Yayas of many years Saning (32) and Rose (15). Not only was my boy a picture of a handsome, dashing little "big" man all dapper in his white long-sleeved shirt, black pants and nectie. His participation at the Graduation Opening Dance to the tune of "Power of Your Love" brought tears to this Techie Mommy’s eyes. More so when I saw him trekking down the aisle to go to their places in the auditorium, onto the handing out of the diplomas and finally hearing my son’s name called and going up that stage alongside him to accept his award of Merit for being one of the Top 10 students in his Prep - Meek class clinched it.
Congratulations dear son! And yup, thanks to technology Dad was able to bear witness to this fateful event via 3G, MMS and SMS!
Melancholy aside, events such as these sometimes put us in a dilemma of sorts. We could be worrying about what to wear, how to get to where we wanna go or even what gifts to give. And then those who can’t wait to get off school and start summer vacation have thoughts of heading to the beaches and have that surmounting itch to plan their summer trips ahead.
I had planned and anticipated Keoni’s graduation activity. Where we were gonna eat, which things to fulfill on his wish list of things. I didn’t get to grant it all but the things he got had him smiling ear to ear. I gladly share some parts of that experience.
Eve of his grad March 15 - Keoni listed down Japanese food and Neoshifter. God is truly good. Ninang Jenny came by to visit and Lo and Behold! After a sumptuous lunch, we headed towards Toys R US where Keoni got to have his hands on his new blue Neoshifter!
Next tick of the list was his longtime dream - The Magnaformer! And like an answered prayer, at Grad day, Daddy John sent, thru Lola and Lola his prize for having a medal of honor. That "prize" was enough to get him that new red, chic and sleek car/robot Magnaformer he now has that didn’t take him any time to go figure.
Keoni’s last item on the list is coming soon courtesty of yours truly. The thing is Mommy wants one too so we could play against each other (yup, he wants a PSP, I’m contemplating ---- should I just get us a WII?)
Let’s change scenery - Prom night/Grad ball. What forms of technology are into play? Well, there’s the RIDE, what you take your date in or how you get to the venue varies. On the way to the prom you and your date either engage in conversation, listen to your IPODs or MP3s or even play games on your PSPs. You take pictures using either a digicam, a video cam or even your cell phones. Check out the music at these events or parties too. While the hiring a pro Mobile or DJ is still in, there are some grad get togethers that make use of the latest MAC IPOD or even an MP3 player, plug ‘em in, hook ‘em up to blasting speakers and Voila....it’s party time!
And then there’s summer vacation, Ahhh, the lure of the sounds of waves hitting rocks and getting a whiff of that fresh air.
Thanks to technology, the solutions are either a finger snap, click and GOOGLE Away. You could not only surf for the best places to eat at, buy toys and read gadget reviews from. The net also allows you to scout around for the best pricing on services and commodities.
And what about the tan? Well, tanning beds are available too in salons such as The Basement near EDSA Shang (there are other ones just check them out and dial 187) and or if you just need a tan for a day there are lotions and sprays that one may use, readily available.
