Pacquiao hurt by doubts about his victory

Crispina Martinez-Belen

At his victory and homecoming party tendered by his home studio GMA 7, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, admitted he is hurt that some of his fellowmen doubted his winning of the WBC Super Featherweight championship against Juan Miguel Marquez at the Mandalay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

"Masakit, kasi mga kapwa ko pa Filipino ang nagsasabi na paimbestigahan daw ang pagka-panalo ko," and in a humorous mood he stressed "sa Kongres kaya o sa Senado?" In the States, no one questioned his winning, "except the camp of Marquez siguro kasi natural naman yon," Manny added.

Manny said he knew he was going to win the title one hundred percent. After the fight, he watched the video several times and the more that he was convinced he was deserving of the title. But he admitted "ito ang isa sa mga pinakamahirap at pinakamadugo kong laban." The wound near his right eye required 17 stitches to close, He did his best "para mapasaya ko ang mga kapwa ko Filipino."

He will now go down history as the only Asian who’ve won three titles in three divisions: WBC Flyweight, IBF Super Bantamweight and WBC Super Featherweight champion.

In welcoming the People’s Champ, Jimmy Duavit, Jr., EVP/COO of GMA Network, said a plain thank you is not enough to say to Manny for bringing honor and pride once more to the Filipino people. By the way, Pacman’s warm welcome at GMA 7 included his guesting at the top-rated morning show of Janice and Gelli Belen and Carmina Villaroel, "SIS." A brass band also awaited his arrival at the entrance of the GMA Network Center. Accompanying Manny were his beauteous wife Jinkee, DENR Secretary Lito Atienza, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson, and many others.

Focus is school and family

Now that he’s back, the People’s Champ will devote his time to his family, especially his three children whom he missed a lot. One of his sons asked for a computer as pasalubong. Manny is also going back to school. He is enrolled at Notre Dame University in General Santos City (GenSan) where he is taking up Business Management.

As to why he chose Business Management as a course, Manny said "gusto ko kasi pagdating ng araw ako na magma-manage ng mga negosyo na ipupundar ko."

Manny is still disappointed that his first movie venture under his own MP Productions which produced "Anak ng Kumander." lost money. The movie, which entailed a P30-million budget (P10-million of which reportedly couldn’t be accounted for), did not make money.

Pacquiao's "Pinoy Records" goes on

Manny will be commuting from GenSan to Manila for the taping of his weekly show on GMA 7 entitled "Pinoy Records," which he co-hosts with basketball star Chris Tiu from Ateneo.

So far, this will only be his showbiz project at the moment. He and his wife Jinkee have decided not to produce movies in the meantime.

Dingdong continues winning streak

He just came fresh from the highly rated "Mari Mar" that has just bowed out of the air but Dingdong Dantes definitely is still on a winning streak in that he has projects waiting for him to do.

One of them is "Dyesebel" which, of course, will team him up once more with Marian Rivera, his love interest in "Mari Mar." So, the love affair continues between them, prompting one movie writer to say "hindi kaya sila magkadebelopan? Hindi kaya magselos si Karylle?"

Everyone knows of course that in real life, Zsa Zsa Padilla’s daughter Karylle is Dingdong’s ladylove.

Anyway, nothing can stop the multitalented Dingdong from working to the bones.

Aside from being a remarkable actor, having made his mark in movies and TV shows (in fact he’s now dubbed the "Prince of Primetime"), Dingdong is also a race car driver, and effective host. In addition to all these, he is also an up-and-coming movie director and restaurateur. He and

Karylle together with some partners own Circle Café at the Centerstage Bldg. at the corner of Timog and Morato Sts.

With various hats on his head, Dingdong is indeed a jack-of-all-trades and a master of all his endeavors. Nothing gets in Dingdong’s way of excellence, not even the smallest headache. That is why he was chosen the newest face in Medicol’s campaign against headache. With Ibuprofen, Medicol targets headaches fast, providing winning and quick relief.
