Brawl mars Air21, TNT tune-up game

Waylon Galvez

Don’t be surprised if Enrico Villanueva shows up in the coming PBA Fiesta Cup wearing the jersey of Purefoods TJ Hotdogs.

A multiple trade is in the works involving three San Miguel Corporation-owned teams and two other ball clubs — Coca-Cola and Red Bull.

With the help of a conduit, Villanueva will end up playing for the Giants in exchange for Jean Marc Pingris who will now suit up for Magnolia Beverage.

A source privy to the ongoing negotiations said the deal is "99 percent sure."

Under the deal, Ginebra will obtain the services of forward Willie Wilson from Magnolia, as well as guard Chester Tolomia from Coke.

The Kings will also get Red Bull guard Junthy Valenzuela, a report flatly denied by PBA chairman and Red Bull governor Tony Chua.

The Tigers, on the other hand, will get shooter Mark Pacapagal.

The source said future picks in the PBA Rookie Draft are part of the deals, but did not elaborate further.

The trade still needs the approval by the PBA Commissioner’s Office, under Officer-In-Charge Rickie Santos. League commissioner Sonny Barrios is still in the United States.

It marked the second time this mid-season break that the Beverage Masters were involved in a deal.

Only last week, Magnolia got ace playmaker Mike Cortez and Ken Bono from Alaska for LA Tenorio and Larry Fonacier.

Barring any problem, Pingris and Villanueva will be playing for their third PBA teams.

Pingris suited up for Air21 in the past while Villanueva played his first three seasons with Red Bull.

Meanwhile, several players from Air21 and Talk ‘N Text face possible suspension and following a brawl that marred their scrimmage at the Sports Camp, The Fort, yesterday.

The melee was triggered by Express’ Ranidel de Ocampo who hit the face of TNT import Aaron McGhee.

A witness said 6-foot-8 McGhee charged at the 6-foot-5 de Ocampo who ran toward their bench. Other players from both sides, sources said, joined the fray.

Cooler heads pacified both teams and Air21 coach Bo Perasol and TNT mentor Chot Reyes decided not to continue the game.

The 10 PBA teams are preparing for the season-ending import-flavored Fiesta Cup set to open this Saturday with Talk ‘N Text facing CocaCola in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
