Globe Telecom has embarked on a campaign this year to educate consumers on fraudulent text messages being distributed among mobile phone users, especially those soliciting cash or load credits.
To kick off its awareness campaign, Globe launches this effort among its thousands of employees throughout the country. Globe aims to communicate to consumers that it is everyone’s responsibility to report fake text promos being spread as it takes collective action to put a stop to text fraud.
By rallying Globe’s employees to this cause, Globe hopes to reach more consumers and engage them in its widespread campaign against malicious text messages.
Globe is currently sending text advisories to all its subscribers, especially the Share-a-Load and GCASH users, to warn them on bogus text messages. In addition, its postpaid subscribers will be notified of Globe’s drive against dubious text promos in their billing statements.
As part of its awareness campaign, Globe encourages consumers to take action and report text messages asking for donation to non-existent institutions or informing them of winning a prize, either a handset or cash. Subscribers must be on guard for such messages especially if these require cash donations or load credits to claim the prize.
To share some guidelines on spotting bogus texts, make sure to verify the authenticity of the institution when asked to make a donation. Most of these mobile thieves suspiciously ask consumers to send GCASH to an institution or call an individual on how to claim the prize.
Winners of Globe’s various promos are never asked to pay cash or GCASH nor send load credits or Share-a-Load as a condition to get the prize. Consumers should be wary of text messages asking them to send an amount to 2 + 10-digit mobile number as this is the procedure in sending load credits via Share-a-Load. In the same manner, they should be careful in sending an amount and their GCASH MPIN to 2882 + 10-digit mobile number. This is the procedure in sending money via GCASH. Make sure to send load credits or GCASH to known mobile numbers and recipients only.
Winners are advised appropriately through letters, advertisements and calls from Globe representatives. Text notifications may also be sent as a coupon to redeem the prize. Take note that Globe’s promos make use of 4-digit access numbers. It is best to check the latest promos and offerings of Globe through print, radio and TV advertisements or by visiting Globe’s website at www.myglobe.com.ph
Globe encourages everyone to take part in the fight against fraudulent text messages. To verify and report fake text promos, call the Globe Hotline 211 and TM Hotline 808 using your mobile phone or send an email to custhelp@globetel.com.ph.
